GXL vs s2k vs 330i

I was on my way home from school and was about to jump on the freeway when a s2k flys up and signals to get on. I brake to let him in and i followed him down the ramp where he quickly accelerates to about 80mph. His car was pretty new, still has the dealer plates on so i knew this was the fast version. I saw the road was clear for a distance in front of him so i drop it to 4th to catch up hoping for some entertainment. He saw me coming so he slowed to about 70 and i line up to his left and blip the throttle and as i was doing that, a white bmw 330i lines up to my left. I looked back to see the driver of the s2k looking at me. Then the s2k start going and he pulls about a 1/4 of a car on me so i floored it in 3rd. I surprisingly pulled hard on both of the cars and from 70-90 i was 2 cars ahead of the s2k and about 3 ahead of the beemer. After that Im not sure if they gave up or not but both cars were dots in the background when i hit 120. A few minutes later the beemer caught up and smiled at me before leaving.

My car weighed in at 2600lbs with a streetported NA on a stock ecu running a cone filter and a rb header with prescilencer to a stock catback. From what I saw from that win, im probably running high 13s or low 14s, Pretty good for 2000 miles on my second build

Unless they weren't trying and then there is not point to the story. Also what year GXL do you have?

the fast version? actually ap1s and ap2s are neck and neck. neither one is faster than the other. one has a little more tq. but the other has a bigger power band. both run very similar times in the 1/4 with the fast time recorded of a 13.6 by an ap1

Good one, 'cause owners of both of those kinds of cars can be a little too proud at times.

So what year GXL do you have? I am debating between v8 swap or rotary rebuild. Sounds like the rotary is fast enough for me to have fun with.

Wow, had no idea a street port was that big of a HP gain. Plan to get it dyno'd soon?

its a 89. I ported it very early, half the corner seal hangs over the port and i was scared the rubber plug was going to fall in but it didnt. I used a mazdatrix template and just went as early as I can over that and radiused the tops of all the ports past the template for the secondaries. For the primary i just went 2mm bigger in every direction except toward the oil seal and radiused the top, keeping it conservative for low end but it didn't really help that haha.

My powerband goes from weak as hell till 2.5k where its about the same as bone stock till about 4k where it finally gets real fast, the exhaust note changes drastically here too, then power stops at 7.5k.

I agree, it's hard to believe you "killed" a S2K, the beemer i believe..or that you'll run a high 13...just take it to the track, then you'll know......right ?
