I'm pulling out of the Parking lot from Sears when i noticed the neon behind me. I saw the hood scoop and figured its gotta be an SRT-4. Never really ran one yet and i doubted I was gonna get the chance this time. So paid no attention. Made a few turns on my way to the highway. Neon following. Well, once we get on the onramp I gave it a little gas not to start anything, but he definately wanted a piece of me so bov blaring next to me, so boom we go... We had a little room but couldnt really open it up. He took it. Fine, my twins are on the way out and i get a lot of lag on the primary so I pretty much loose about a car on a roll unless i brakeboost. W/e, we line up and slow down to about 30mph, we did this 2 or 3 times lost every single time. NO, he wasnt faster. I simply wasnt able to put the power down cause of salt on the road so i kept on fishtailling through 2nd and 3rd so I wasnt worried. I did think it was gonna be a good even race though. So we come up on an exit ramp to switch highways. Sure enough were going the same way. Now on this parkway the surface is salt free and plenty of room. I was very reluctant to go ahead and run him cause i know for a fact that there is always a Cop eating donuts around this particular area. BUT, seing as how he might be walking away from this one thinking he got me I decided to go ahead and show him some flames...So we line up, 2nd gear at about 30mph, no brakeboost just side to side and he punched it so did I. He starts pulling a little while i'm on the primary. Here comes the transition, get ready...I start reeling him back in. Pass him while i hear/see him shift(must have had a atmosphere vented wastegate, he kept shooting flames under the car behind the front wheels) and I still got another thousand rpms to go through. This is great! By the time i shift to 3rd I got at least a car on him. I took 3rd all the way to redline and put enough distance between me and him to allow a bus to merge in. lol We came up on traffic and i kinda lost him but we took the same exit. He pulled next to me and to my disappointment he had 3 guys in the car with him so it was hardly even fair. He was pretty cool though and seemed fairly impressed by how fast my FD is(hehe, didnt even tell him about the twins or how much boost i was running - 10psi). I'm sure when he kicks all those people out of the car it will be a much closer race! I'm just bummed cause the rear kept getting loose on me on the first few pulls and it seemed as if i was getting my *** handed to me...too much gas and it fishtailled too little and he pulled on me. I got mines in the end though!
Oh, just due to his flames under the car I'm assuming its either got a mopar turbo kit or he got a ridiculously large exhaust leak. My $$ is on a stage 2 kit...maybe a 3(would put it closer to me according to local owners i've talked to at the local hang out). I was very i'mpressed with the way it stuck with me through 2nd, specially with all those people in it!

Meh, I'd say its not stock. They aren't quite as fast stock for stock as an FD. Nice races.

they go 13.9 stock with a good driver, but that **** was not stock haha. my bro has his 05 srt-4 running 11's and pulls om my fd alllllllll day long.

the stages' don't have anything to do with the fact that he was flaming. i don't know what the hell could be wrong there, but that shouldn't happen hehe. none the less, those are really impressive cars, but people seem to love flaming on them for the simple fact that it's a "neon" (technically it's an srt-4). it's great to see someone else having a sense of respect for them as im one of the few pretty much always backing up the srt-4's on the forum.

I dont think its the fact that it's a neon, i think its just us blessed with rwd not understanding the point of a fwd car with that much power. it is a great sleeper but honesly i dont like pushing through turns when i put my foot down the tail better respond. so wow they are fast but who cares anymore you can make anything pretty fast these days without spending all that much. for what it is the srt4 is a fantastic car, it just doesnt get my blood pumping.

they would be a lot faster in the 1/4 stock if they had traction. they are a lot quicker from a roll. given your cars issues, it was likely pretty close to stock.


have to love the turbo dodges.. most people dont know it but dodge has made far more turbo cars than any other manufacturer.. ive got a turbo omni.. wish mine was dohc like the neons

id put my omni up against any rx7 with equivilant suspension mods in a handling contest btw.. some fwd cars handle pretty damn good

i can link you to a vid of a buddies turbo omni kicking the *** end out around every turn on a small road race course if you want.. fwd oversteer is possible

thats true, the stages have nothing to do with it. I dont even know what they come with(wastegates - internal or external). I do know that there is only a few possibilities, either aftermarket turbo with a atmosphere vented w/g, the factory external w/g(if it comes like that) modded to vent to the atmosphere or a NASTY *** exhaust leak...

I'm really hoping its some kind of aftermarket turbo kit or mopar.

we got a srt4 in my car club who has side exhaust, i dont know about the flames, but hes puttin 18lbs stock with boost controller,msd ignition, he also has some happy gas, but he doesn't use it much

my freind just got an srt, hes allready modded it with the engine not even broken in cant wait to see how it does against me! (T2 with full bolt ons/ race port )

..stock ecu can only handle 13.5psi. stock boost is at 7-8psi.

Yeah, talk about WTF??? I thought he had broken something the first time i saw it...I even let off the gas pedal and everything! He kept going so I got back on it too. More to the point, I saw it do that like 3 times(his front tire at my window). Certainly got my attention! lol

hey guys, i am an srt owner just browsing, just wanted to clear up that he probly has a cut out down pipe... they sell them for our cars where u just push a button and it opens up the down pipe right behind the front tires and they shoot crazy flames lol

he thinks he has a chance, hes also gotten window tint a nice alarm and a new cd deck... for only having it two weeks hes allready put some money into

Hey.. if the guy with the RX7 would tell me what kind of power hes making I could give you a nice ballpark of how modded the SRT was and if it was on stock turbo or not..

Stock Turbo is more than capable of making well over 300whp

Big Turbo can be anywhere from 300-550whp on the stock motor depending on tuning and turbo size(doubt he was in the 5s tho)

And the flames were not an exhaust leak.. its just an open 3" downpipe.. i have one shoots flames all day and sounds like a mac truck

Most likely bigger turbo.. RX7s are light to begin with.. if ur makin 300whp and got some weight redux goin on he'd definetly have to be at about 350 maybe even 370..since he had passengers and kept up

Id guess Stage 3 or AGP .50 trim since those are the most popular

what do you trap at? do you kno? cuz an SRT with like 350whp could trap like mid1teens

I can't say that I like SRT-4's as a car, but I definitely like their engines. Had they actually put that motor into a new chassis rather than reusing an old one that had become synonymous "beater" I would have probably bought one. Perhaps a coupe? But then again, had they not recycled some parts then it would have ended up costing more.
