Yeah, they can... it just doesn't work especially well, as they are high-compression motors, and mostly too new to need rebuilds, negating a financially reasonable way to build as a lower compression motor. Furthermore, the RX8 tranny is kind of a creampuff, and can't handle especially high power.

I love my 8, but it's my daily driver... I spend my money on the 7.

A kill against an 8 is not really note worthy. A kill against a turbo 8 is kinda note worthy, but it is still like posting a kill against a miata; we all knew the outcome before the race started.

Now going up against an M3 . . . . that is cool. Keeping up with a V8 procharged . . . very cool.

haha. Even my old NA Vert(150+/- HP for 3100+ #) could spank a Rx8. Did on more than one occasion too.

Isn't bone stock mean that you're...100% stock?

It's really not so much that they are high compression, it's just there is alot of tuning in the stock ECU from the factory. Greddy's kit did a half *** job of making their e-manage work. But Mazsport and a few other companies have made kits that work reasonably well with proprietary engine management.

Their tranny I heard isn't that stout, but people say that about the NA tranny and plenty of people have had success with that (even though there are cases where they shred, check Kevin Landers' website for that ****).

Was he racing? Or know how to drive?

Because the slowest stock RX-8 would demolish a 150HP (dyno?) vert.

Don't verts run in the high 16's from the factory?

Sorry I gotta be a prude, but I have 10 minutes to be on the net today.

If it was an 04/05 auto 8, then it is doable. They only had a 4 speed tranny with about 40 less hp than the 6spds. The trannies are plenty durable enough for most anything you could throw at it. An early build batch seemed to have some issues, which probably led to this pressumption.

Mazsport is doing some good things with the 8s Ive personally seen some of their work, fully built single turbo 8, 20b rx8 (I think the guys on these forums).. Mazsport does some great work, people come from all over the country to have their cars worked on by them.

wow, a little birdy told me I was being called out in here.
It had to be a 2004 or 2005, cause I haven't had my 7 for almost 2 years now.

And no I don't have video, but I have no reason to make **** up. I had a thread about this subject, musta been 2005 or early 2006, cause I can't find it now.....

Anyways, It was an older guy and I know for sure he was trying to race, cause I heard that engine scream... and yeah I'm pretty sure it was an auto. I'd see him around town and he'd always try and race, he'd get me off the line, but I'd pull on him hard, maybe he was scared to hurt his car, while I was out to enjoy every single bit of rpm avail....
