FD3S vs 06 GTO

well i lost by about 2 feet, but its kinda exciting anyways. we went from like a 20mph roll, and raced to about 110. i was pretty even with him the whole way through. i have a power FC, intake, and full exhaust. my clutch is slippin a lil too, so i think i could take em if i got a new one. his car only had an intake....

we all know who would win on a track though. lol later

Well that didn't go well. you should have been able to take him. Especially with a lightly modded FD.

Nice try though, I guess it boils down to the drivers.

Great Kill SwiftTone! Especially for a FC! Those were V8 GTO right.

^You're kidding right? New GTO's only come with a V8. Period. 06's Came with a 400hp LS2 6.0 and the prior models came with an LS1 with less power. I've driven an '06 and was VERY impressed overall by the performance. Stock for stock, a GTO will beat an FD in a straight line. Even lightly modded, an FD is going to have some trouble keeping up. Moderately modded, okay, FD=win. But what happens when you mod the GTO!!!

I agree with 1revvinfc3s. 400hp LS6 GTOs (which he did race since it was an 06) are not to be taken lightly. Even just a CAI in that sucka can add some juice.

Slight correction, LS2, not LS6. LS6 was the C5 Z06 405HP 346Ci engine. The LS2 is a 6.0 400HP engine. Either way, they are quick. Last time I was at the track with my FD I raced one. Beat him pretty good, but he still ran a 13.7, at it was bone stock. Not bad for the heavy boats they are.

Yup. And the almighty LS7 sits at home in the C6 Z06.

I think you were being sarcastic...but anyways, obviously V8. The one I raced on the street had the hoodscoops which I think was the version with more power. We went from a roll. I had a passenger, he was alone. I walked him by maybe a car. He let off when the bends came...

The ones at the track i beat by a few cars when I ran a 13.7 with a slipping clutch. But I think they were just bad drivers because I had cold tires and they warmed up their tires realll good, haha. I don't remember what they ran or which version they were.

I love my goat I'm not seeing how you could have kept up with him, though...especially with light mods like that. An '06 will run damn close to a 13.0 stock with a great driver. They're heavy as poop, but 400 lb/ft of torque make up for that a bit. Not saying BS or anything...you've got a strong FD with those mods if you kept up with him that well. Or he was in 3rd LOL. 2nd gear is the only really good pulling gear in a stock GTO as far as I can tell. 3rd is a bit sluggish...anything higher still accelerates, but doesn't pull hard. 1st gear just gets you tire smoke. Nice race though

^Yeah. The one I drove was kinda like that. Took no time at all to get to 70, meaning I didn't even get to see 3rd, but when I hit third and blipped it for a moment, I could feel a difference. The gearing wasn't too impressive at all.

dont feel bad. my pile was running 13.3@106 last year and my buddy in his 06 6.0 gto got me by 3 or so cars up to just over 100mph, all he had was cai, catback, and he can drive

i spun a little out of the hole, but it was a clean run for the most part. definately faster than 13.7 well driven with basic mods

It would have been nice to see the kind of performance numbers the GTO could have put up if it were closer to 3000 lbs opposed to 4000 pounds. I think that's the main reason the relatively un-modded seven could keep up with the GOAT.

With a great driver a stock LS2 powered GTO will run around a 13.0...plenty of cases to prove that. Think the fastest time posted in a completely stock LS2 GTO was around a 12.97, at least by members on ls2gto.com

No offense Sprocket, but Christ, I hate domestics. Let's put a V8 in everything! What do we do to get those moms to their soccer games on time? I know, how about a Hemi in a station wagon!? Brilliant! Ok, now how can we get those men who are trapped in a family with 2 kids but wants the power of a sports car? V8 in a Grand Prix! Brilliant! Now, we have a problem with our SUV's tipping over in the turns, so how can we solve this??? Hmmm... if it's going fast enough, it won't just tip over, it'll ROLL over and back onto it's wheels! Put a Hemi in it!!! BRILLIANT!

Hey, the engine works, puts out 400hp, and doesn't blow up. What's wrong with that? If it works, don't fix it. Trust me, I'm not offended. I've owned plenty of cars...I had an FD...I've had 4 Hondas (two turbocharged)...I've owned two Evos....I've owned a Volkswagen...I've owned a Scion...I've owned a Jeep. This GTO has been the best of the lot, for me. I know not everyone's going to like it...I don't understand the "hate" though - I think that's a little ridiculous.

I mean, to me, it was no question. I have a brand new car with 400hp, 400lb/ft of torque, a very nice interior, room for 4, trunk space (although, not much), 13.0 1/4 mile capabilities stock, RWD, and a 7 year warranty for under $30,000. It'd be hard to find a car with the same qualities for less money (new car), import or domestic.
