I've found that how hard the cops are on you when you're speeding depends on three major factors:

1) Who the cop is
2) How polite you are
3) What part of the country you're in

I've been pulled over twice for over 100mph in Southern California and both times I got just a regular speeding ticket and got out of it. Pulled over once in Western Texas. He got me on the radar going 124mph. He justed asked me to please slow down.

However, the angriest cops I've met are on the east coast. They flip out if you're going more than 10 over.

Anyway... I'm against unsafe driving on public roads. But as you can tell I don't always follow the rules. The fact is that what is safe is a very subjective thing. Driving at any speed is unsafe. Speed limits are a way of trying to put an artificial congrete number on safety. I often feel that I can exceed those limits safely in some situations. But I accept that I will receive speeding tickets due to my attitude. I don't get mad at the officers when I'm pulled over. They're just people doing their job.

I will back up your observation of police attitudes in relation to geographic locations. East end officers are jerks and I can attest to that having pulled one over for speeding several years ago. He flashed me his badge and to him it was implied I would just let him go... No such luck he got the tag. Just because he was a captain didn't mean he had a license to speed especially when he tried to pull "rank" over me. (!) There is one in every crowd!

Some of the nicest speeders I have encountered have been under the age of 18, maybe its fear driven but they are damn polite and if they are clean with no priors and its a minor infraction I write a warning. I know how hard it can be as a kid plus having kids of my own I don't get this mindset that they "deserve a ticket" just to teach them a lession, we all make mistakes myself included and have paid my fair share of tickets through the years.

On the flipside of this I have had 30 somethings and even older call me an ******* to my face after receiving the ticket for say 75/55 and these are the lawyers, brokers or other suited professionals driving in those high end Acuras and other overpriced cars. They call me ******* to my face and I just say "Thank you and have a nice day"... Forgot to mention it takes ALOT to **** me off sometimes and ******* is just my middle name!

I think the funniest stop was several years ago when I stopped a guy for 55/40, the driver and passenger were both black and when I got to the car the driver barked out "You only stopped me because I was black" and I camly said no you were doing 55 in a 40 zone. His passenger became verbal and shouted "You only stopped us 'cuz he was speeding!" I had a hell of a time writing the tag because I was laughing so hard and just had to give the guy credit because of his honesty...
Never a dull moment, only boredom for 7 hours and 30 minutes of terror on most days, this one really made me laugh!

Anyway I dont expect 88GTU to like me or other officers, just be polite and odds are you might get a break. Actually I dont expect to be liked by anyone for that matter.

I made a California Highway Patrol laugh once. He pulled me over for going a little bit over a 100 in my FD. He asked what I was going to fast for and I said "I'm sorry, this car makes me do evil things". I don't think he had heard that one before.

John - you are right about all of those, especially 3). - refer to my first post in this thread about NC cops. Although, I can think of at least 2 exceptions 1)Atlanta area and 2)some places in the DC Area Those people only go slow in a traffic jam!

badge988 - again, refer to my first post in this thread about NC cops. every where I have been on the East Coast, I know for a FACT that officers have a "gentleman's agreement". They don't ticket: fellow officers, friends, family, friends' friends, family friends, friend's family, friends or family of a fellow officer, or anybody they think that they might have known or may have some ties to somehow. <-- Did I explain that good enough for you? I have friends that have gotten off because they "know somebody". The best word I can come up with to describe it is CORRUPTION!! Basically, that is why the captain flashed you his badge, he thought you would back off and let him pass by! I'm glad you gave him a ticket. That kinda stuff needs to stop.

sounds like a P.IG with nothing else better to do but FU-- with people. you didn't have to push them into felony. you were breaking the law to make someone else get a felony, what do you get some kind of bonus for felonies? everytime i turn around som PIG is trying to pull someone else into the big buisness thats know as the system. if you people only know one thing know that YOU ARE ONLY FREE AS LONG AS YOU DO AS YOU'RE TOLD! FU-- DA POLICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Ok to start this off there are good cops and bad cops,badge988 I like you because you are fair to everybody, ok yes I am 18 as of March 23 I have a 1st gen RX-7 12A and lots of other 1st gens that I like to mess around with. I love to go fast and I love fast cars, but when I see some people being stupid and racing at night around where people walk on the side of the road and they are going about 90 that is stupid. I saw a cop the other day going down a 4 lane road at at least 90 if not more, grantit it was 1 in the morning it is still a main road and he was not going anywhere important cause about 2 mins later he came back by and did the same thing again. If I could have pulled him over I would have. I have had one ticket in my moms jeep, doing 73-55 actually doing 83 but the state trooper was nice about it cause I was passing a semi, it was on a highway that had miles of grass on either side and you could see for miles. One thing I have always wondered 988 is why do you have to use big heavy cars? why do you not have unmarked cars that can actually handle and accelerate so then if someone sees an RX-7, corvette, turbo miata then they will not try to outrun them because they will lose. Plus you could get just regular people to do it? It is kindof like teachers pet things whoever they favor will get an A or in this case no Ticket. it is stupid if you ask me.

Thats just my 2 cents sorry for the long post, peace, drift7-

Dudes I try to be fair minded but face it guys, if someone comes on to you during a traffic stop and starts to give you hell wouldn't that **** you off? So the guy calls me an ******* or worse but did he threaten me at all? No and nothing I can really do about it. I can't call him an ******* back so I just let it go.

Now what im trying to figure out is what Spimp is trying to get at here. I did not "push" them into a felony as you claim, they were in control of the throttle not me. I was only following matters of procedure. Now case in point involves a chase that went through Saint Paul MN on monday afternoon that involved a stolen car and ended up becoming a medium speed chase through rush hour traffic. 3 departments tried to chase him down but were hindered by traffic to the point of NOT being able to get the suspect boxed in, the suspect ended up crashing the stolen into another car and 2 people were injured. Would it have been better to have the suspect crash into a patrol car under controlled conditions or have him slam into a guard rail and spewing broken parts into oncoming traffic causing yet another chain reaction crash? You accuse me of breaking the law without knowing all the facts and procedures, a bit arrogant isn't it? You can say f*ck the police I really have no issue with that, its guys who have this attitude who have visited the business end of a jail and it left a bad impression. Everyone is in control of themselves really, do guns kill? Yes they do however not without a person pulling the trigger as they don't do it alone. Do people speed? Yes they do but Im not pushing the accelerator in your car. I hope this point is clear enough.

Now to answer sweetege. The reason we are saddled in fat 4-door cars is simply because we need the room. That Impala is a joke albeit lighter than a P71 interceptor however leaves much to be desired in terms of performance and room. I'm not the tallest person around but even for me the 9C3 impala is a bit too cramped especially with the cage and radio stacker. The P71 is a bit bigger and has a real frame under it however that 4.6 liter toilet simply cant swallow all the crap when needed. Brakes however are excellent and steering is pretty good, no torque steer as the case with the impala and that overworked 3.8 buick motor that dates back to the early 1960's. The best squad was the 9C1 Caprice. I dont remember the book specs for the motor however that car had the power to hit 145 with a lightbar and didn't need much real estate to get there, the P71 has a hard time getting past 130 slicktop and doesn't have the sheer "sink your *** in the seat" acceleration that the old 9C1 had. I miss those cars!

Now I know Im going to get flamed some more here so let me get on my pyro-suit and goggles, I want to keep what little hair I have on top!
