Death of a C6

or was it slow torture? You be the judge. (it's long so I posted the paragrah were the kill happened with a header so scroll down)

FD Vs C6:

Yesterday afternoon I left work a little late about 6:30 p.m. Being later the traffic was much lighter, but still many cars on the road. Anyway I'm coming along about 80 MPH on the fast lane and I spot a convertible C6 on the #2 lane probably going about 75 MPH with the top down. Eventually I cought up to him and as I was slowly passing him I was checking out his car (I'm fan of the new Vettes). It was an older dude driving it though he was wearing a baseball hat I could clearly see he had gray hair (top down and the sun is still bright).

So he sees me checking out his ride and the dude guns it and lunges forward but brakes abruptly due to the fact that the freway is rather populated (he had about a ten car gap before hitting the rear end of another car). So of course I get this big *** smile on my face because these guys never ever want to play. I also have a gap in traffic so I hit my hi boost button and gun it to show his that I'm bit. He gets right behind me and tailing me I really cant go WOT due to traffic. He gets bored, changes lane and hauls ***. Then I got behind him for me to chase. This went on about 5 miles. I'm thinking theres no way I'm gonna get to line up with him too much traffic. Then he starts merging over to another freeway than runs parallel with the one we are on which is always less crowded. I actually can take both freeways since my destination is rather colse to either one so I follow suit and merge onto the other freeway.

This section of this freeway is two lanes because it's almost the end of it. Right before the freeway ends (in about 3 miles) it becomes 4 lanes as two merge onto another freeway and two veer off unto a naval base. We are still playing follow the leader. He is still ahead of me and I'm right at his bumper. We get to the part were the freeway becomes four lanes again and of course on this stretch the traffic is very light with only one car on the fast lane all 3 other lanes are open for about 1/2 mile straight away.

Now for the kill:
He is #2 lane and I'm right behing him. I check my speedo and I'm at 80 MPH, I downshift to third as I expect him to floor it because traffic is about to open up (2 lanes - 4 lanes). Traffic opens up, he guns it again and I WOT change lanes and begin to reel him in. From a half car behind I begin to slowly catch up I'd say about a 1 MPH. I soon change to fourth gear now and I'm at his door, I look over and he has this deternimed look on his face lol. I continue on my path of dominance as now I'm pulling on him. My front bumper passes his *BAM* booya! there it is! I continue to pull, front bumper was about my door when I hit the brakes. Traffic was coming up and thought I still had plenty of room I don't like to to cut it close if you know what I mean. I dind't see my speed but I'd say I was anywhere from 115 -125 MPH at the time of shut down maybe even 130 but I don't know. He continued hauling ***.

We both merged unto the same on ramp (remember freeway was ending) we both hit bumper to bumper traffic lol. He was at a dead stop and I rolled up next to him and gave him a thumbs up he looked over with a big *** smile on his face pointed at my car thought I did not really hear what he said (I had my windows rolled up) I coud tell it was somewhere along the lines of "****!" that thing hauls ***!" Smiled back and continued on through to my my exit.

before I get all of the BS flags thrown, take note that my car should be at around 300 RWHP. With that taken into account bite on these stock C6 numbers:

bottom curve is stock:

taken from here: note that the Z51 seems to have about 20 ponies more. But I didn't race a Z51.

thanks guys

Though I really wish we could had lined up I was still rather happy about getting the chance to run a new vette.

yeah I'd say the FD is much healthier now that I went non sequential. I was always having boost issues before but not anymore

Steve keeps telling me your **** is fast, every time I talk to him he says "Dude, you have to leave me your car so I can spend more time tuning it. Palmer left his ride here for me to tune and it's f@wking fast. So come on"

Very nice kill. I had a short race with a C6 a few months ago, and was able to pull ever so slightly on him. I attributed my kill to him being a bad driver . I believe that my car is around 300 rwhp at 13 psi. I suspect that your car is closer to 315-320, which would explain why you were able to do better than I did against a C6 (although I did win my race too).

Nice kill!!!

I don't know man. This guy was in a convertable so the extra weight certainly does not help.

Haha, yeah, he gives me the same trip. I only have one "real" kill, against my friend with a Nova (he thinks he's got about 350 to the wheels). He ran his car at the strip a while back when his motor had "less wear" on it and the best time he cut on street tires was something in the low 13s.

He and I went out one weekend to screw around and do burnouts and stuff So we lined up three separate times at a stoplight (the same one to merge onto a freeway.... it's a little more than 1/8 mile I think). My launch totally sucks, but by the top of 2nd gear, I'm at his rear bumper, after that he tells me, "you went past me like I was standing still!" And this is coming from a "muscle car guy". He hates to admit that anyone smoked him, a Japanese, rotary powered car no less The irony of it though, is that I think he wants an FD now

Anyway, good kill on your part, I need to get my car out to the strip/dyno to get some hard numbers.

PS Steve did a great job of tuning my car, EXCEPT for 2ndary injector transition. Did he get that figured out on your car? Our setups are not that different

I have stock injectors so I don't have that problem with the trasition

What I had was an idle problem but yeah he figured it out. We just forgot to turn off the o2 sensor
