I was tunning my car and when done took it for a test drive. It didn't run good but it was safe to drive (AFR's high 9's and 10's). Went cruising downtown Prescott and found me a new Tiburon at a light. He was jamming his loud music and looked at me and then at the car. I started reving to let him know I was not intimidated. We took off and he had me all first gear by about 3 cars. On second gear after 5000rpm I started catching up. By 8000rpm I was ahead by a car. In 3rd gear I pulled 2 more car length and let off the gas. There was a light ahead and I was going to give him another chance. However he ran the yellow light not wanting a rematch.

I kept cruising around an found me a Civic with nice paint job a huge tachometer on the pillar and "Team Xtream Velocity" painted on the bumper. I folled him until a light. He had his girlfriend on board and greted me I greted him back. The light changed and I let him take off. I cought him by the end of 1st gear before stopping at the next light. It was obious he was not racing. At the light he looked at me and said "wow". Then I heard him reving his engine and I did the same. I dropped the clutch at 5000rpm and we took off even. After 5000rpm again I pulle away hard, shifted into second. By the end of second I had a good 7 cars ahead. I saw him turn left and I turned right to head towards the strip again.

Now I find me and 80's Eclipse Turbo. His girlfriend ask me if I am turbo and I say no. I do a little reving but we both had car infront of us. He turns left and I turn right. I go by the strip again and I see him pulled to the side. I pass him and honk. He followed me. Now at the light I ask him "Do you want to try it" he says yes. He also tells me this is his first 5 speed car. I am reving at 5000rpm again and the light changes. I let him roll first. He had me all first gear by about 2 cars. I shift into second and I get even. After 5000rpm I get full boost and that was it. I turn right again and go back to the strip. On the way back I make a U turn at a closed gas station and he is there. We talk for a while and he told me were people meet to race where are the hang out and who thinks they have a bad *** car. He took me to the hang out and we BS until 1:00 am. He was a cool guy and we are meeting next saturday again.

There is no visual indication that the car is turbo (no hoodscoop). I have noticed that if people now you are turbo they will "back off" from a race. Anyways, after the race and the gas station I told him I was turbo. He said " when you said you were not turbo, I thought I had a good chance of beeting you "

 

When did they make Eclipses in the 80's?

 

I don't know what year it was. It was the first generation (similar to the Talon) maybe early 90's then.

i guess that talon guy is still a newbie! i'm sure he can find out whether ur car is turbo or not when he race with you just by listening to the BOV.
