25 mph kill
today around 8:20 pm i went to a gas station to fill up my 1990 rx7 gxl (stock).. so when i was leaving the gas station i seen there was a lot of traffic so i decide to take the residential streets because i live close to the gas station..so i was cruising about 25 mph it was dark and out of nowhere a white small little dog just runs in front of my rx7 i didn't even had a chance to react it happen to fast.. i felt the dog in the front and rear of my rx7...i look threw my rear view mirror and i see him laying on the floor so i just took off... i feel very bad what happened i would of stopped but i don't want to deal with the family...
I'm just messin' with you, but I concur that you should have stopped. Did you not want to deal with the family or did you not want the hassle of dealing with the family? There's a recent thread in the lounge about this very thing. Wouldn't the family probably feel better knowing that the person driving the car their dog stupidly ran under cared enough to stop as opposed to "Hello, Mrs. Wagner? We found what appears to be your dog. [describes dog] Was this your dog? Yes? Well, Ma'am, I'm afraid I have some bad news..." Long story short, they all grieve 2x as long and carry a personal grudge against anyone careless enough to leave what was probably a pet for dead.
But that's just some basic reasoning on my part. I don't try to avoid cats. We hates them. But a dog or something else big enough to do serious damage I'll do what I'm able to do safely.

The dog should have been on a leash or in a fenced area so the owners are partly at fault. But did you not have a father or mother teach you about being a man or taking responsibility for your actions? What if it had been a small child would you be as proud to come on here and expect us to give you thumbs up?

You people realize that if he felt the wheels in both the front and rear go over the animal that it is as good as dead. If he were to stop to find the family how would he know what house they lived in. For all we know it was a stray running through a random neighborhood. Should he really have carried the carcass door to door trying to find the irresponsible owner? **** NO! What if he found the owner and they were some deranged idiot that went into a blind rage after finding out their negligence caused their dog to get killed and they kill the driver? There are people that are just that fucked up.
He is not boasting about running the animal over. You people miss the frown face next to the thread? Obviously he didn't want to kill an animal. However posting about it here isn't exactly appropriate.
Don't get me wrong, I am not a dog or animal hater. I have had alot of pets throughout my life, you name it, dogs, cats, various reptiles, birds, etc etc. but I have always been responsible about keeping them out of the road and\or harms way. I just have no tolerance for irresponsible pet owners. You want to let your dog run free throughout the neighborhood, you better be ready to deal with the consequences that can bring.
FYI, you guys wanna bitch about the killing of an animal then you should head over to this thread. https://www.rx7club.com/lounge-192/soldier-throws-puppy-off-cliff-vid-735511/
Now this is something there is no excuse for.
I would not expect any driver to risk a worse outcome by swerving to avoid a dog running in front of your car. I have also hit a dog that i could not avoid hitting but i stoped and found the dog still alive, i didnt know were the owner was but i called the pet control and waited for them to take the dog to the vet. I also have to consiede that were i live it is not as dangerous as other places. I may have spoken too soon and wasn't there. Also as you and i both said the owner has the total resposibility to protect the dog and the potential of a human being hurt by the actions of there dog!
I should of thought twice before posting this...I believe dog is man best friend.. I still feel awe full about the dog and cant stop thinking about it..but where i live the streets are tough i cant risk putting myself in danger thats is one of the reason i didn't stop..i am not a bad person.. im sorry if i offended you guys...
I think i judged you too harshley given the situation i hope i havn't add to your problem. I have been places i know i would not have stoped for anything it would have been a bad outcome!
However, many people do just that, they'll charge right into worse situations by swerving and the like because they lack quality mental preparation. From what I can tell, most drivers only let one or two external stimuli have any attention at any given moment. If they're texting, they're probably not watching the road and almost certainly not watching their clearances nor speed. If they're staring straight ahead, a turn signal, if even used, is often an afterthought signifying that they have just barged into your lane without warning, so here's my signal to show you it did in fact cross my mind at some point... You know it's just easier to call them stupid. And still true.
You don't have any legal obligation to stop if you hit a dog.
If you hit a person and leave the scene, you're probably going to jail.
You did the right thing in terms of avoiding a lawsuit. And you don't know what kind of crazy would shoot you for hitting their dog if you stayed.

Legally they would have no leg to stand on(in Australia atleast), unless they could prove that you were speeding or driving dangerously ect. But not so sure about America, your laws are pretty messed up with all the lawsuits going on.
are you telling me you couldnt stop in time going 25??? I live in a neighborhood with crazy cats with no fear and have had many instances where there have been close calls but I manage to always stop in time for them.... -.- you should of stopped or atleast called animal control... something other then leave it there
Anyway, i hope for the best.

I was just in his situation two nights ago. My girlfriend was driving and some cat or racoon walks out in front of us. (Cant distinguish between the two because it was dark) She cant be going to fast because the turn is right ahead, but I feel if she would have slammed on breaks then someone might have rear ended us. Sometimes you just cant miss things in the road.
