~390HP SVT Cobra vs. 90 TII...yeah, i won. lol

I live in a small town, so there arnt that many guys with fast cars... this guy has what is pretty much know as "the fastest car in town" he pretty much spends everything on his car i dont know exactly what is done to it, but i can get the specs later. He told me after the race that it is around 390hp. but could be more could be less... it is still pretty fast.

Anyway so the story goes. i was just doing a lap through town to see if anyone was out and then i was going to go over to my girlfriends and spend the night. no big deal right? so anyway i see some of my friends and pull over. next thing i know im getting asked, "how about you guys do a third gear pull?" then the guy with the cobra suggested we run them heads up just for the hell of it. seemed alright to me, so i gave in.

anyway, here are the details about my car and what i know about his:

my car: 90 turbo 2 street ported s6 housings t04e turbo pushing 10 psi on the wastegate spring. dyno at 340 WHP. 3/4 worn 16X7 street tires on turbo II rims.

SVT cobra: all motor, dont know exact gears but its made low for the 1/4. FAST! 11 inch wide DOT drag radials thats about all i know he says 390HP.

so i didnt expect a win really, expecially since my car has 0 tracktion and he has 8in's more of rubber on the road then i do.

anyway he makes me honk (sucks i hate honking.) i rev it to 5 and drop it easy. he jumps about half a car off the launch but mine wasnt anything good. i keep on it easy through 1st and 2nd and about half way through second i catch and boost comes in all the way. my head is to the headrest and i nail third right before he is hitting forth. im staying at his door and slowly gaining untill he hits forth. then i pull pretty hard and keep going. probably about a full car in front when all was said and done.

he seemed a little mad after the race, i mean i told him it was a 1.3L. lol anyway he wants another race again in the summer with better traction. but i told him i dont want to run them anywhere else but a track cause it was just too crazy fast for the streets. anyway awesome race im happy. but now i have to go out of town cause no one will race me now! lol

what do you guys think?

so you had less traction than he did but he wants to race again when he has more? how about you run your space saver spares in the rear, will he accept that as a possibility? lol he sounds like a sore loser, probably needs time to install a naws kit or something...

For the most part, people that drive mustangs, or any other domestic muscle car get that "my ***** are bigger than you since i have 8 cylinders" thing going on.

Good kill, put that SVT in its place, in the rearview mirror.

On the Naws kit subject, I have a friend that says he had X amount of work done to his car, would pull the wheels off the ground on the street, with him and his girlfriend in the car. Oh, and he was also driving a 99 SVT Cobra. BS meter went through the roof on that one.

those mustangs are not really fast at all. The only ones you should watch out for are the 2003 2004 cobra with the supercharger. With boltons the can hit over 500 to the wheels

yeah but this one is far from stock, im still waiting on what has actually been done to it. but everyone said it was the best match i had in town. this guy beat a fully built twin 300z which was suppose to be the fastest car around. but no one really knows who is really talking BS or not though. lol

You know funny you mention it, this car was actually setup for factory stock class racing. As for your quote, I rode in the car as it pulled an 04 Cobra with a pullyswap, diablo programmer, and slp exhaust. Also as 'factory stock' entails, its for the most part STOCK.

The car has a live axle conversion from a 95gt, t56 6speed swap, 4.30 gears, BBK cold air inlet, Bassani Longtubes, magnaflow x-pipe, magnaflow catback, Granatelli 90mm Mass air meter calibrated for 24lb injectors, and a Bob Cosby's personal ECU from his world 1st place factory stock Cobra.

So in that respect I think the car deserves more credit for running 11's with a stock intake manifold, stock twin blade throttle body, stock cams, stock fuel pump, etc. ****, there was a recall for the 99 cobra also for a lower intake manifold port from SVT. This car hasn't had this performed according to a VIN check. I would hate to see what its going to do with rods/pistons/200shot.

I think it would be much closer when its warmer but near the end of the quarter I think the 7 would pick up steam and still win as the cars sit now.

(btw Logan, the red Z in my sig barely lost to the Cobra on 10psi. It is set at its normal 26 now, theres not much around that can touch it.)

Not to steal anyones thunder but a similar thing happened to me... except i have a near stock N/a (around 200 hp and lightened by 250lbs) and i raced a Taurus SHO... this punk was leaving the local college and he pulled up by at the red light next to me, reving his engine with a maxwell house ricer exhaust on the back... He then called me rich boy with a porsche (i assume the 944 turbo) and said he could smoke me anyday. Not so. I saw him the next day and told him it wasnt a porsche. the part where i told him it was a N/a 1.3 liter was the final humiliating blow for him.

Awesome that you beat the american muscle... props to every one that does it!!!
