Top Coolant Port Removal/Blocking
Top Coolant Port Removal/Blocking
Hey Team,
We have a 13b 6 port we are rebuilding for racing (had some coolant issues). Would like to remove as many potential failure points for coolant leakage as possible. The heater hose outlet is one we can (if we have to) do the old heater hose/bolt block off.
There is a coolant port on the top of the engine (1/2" maybe) that was used I think for intake heat for the stock engine. What is my best bet for blocking this off? I don't think the barb will unscrew out of there, but also don't want to use a vacuum plug or something that will deteriorate/blowout.
Thanks,
Jesse

I had this top coolant port tapped for a -4 fitting and routed to the AST as an additional point for bleeding air from the coolant system. It's worth considering if you're using an AST/swirl pot.
I pull the nipple and drill the mess out with a 7/16" drill bit, tap the hole with a pipe tap (think 1/4 NPT) and install a mechanical coolant temp gauge bulb there. It is almost the hottest point in the cooling system and a good place to measure temperature from.
