In response to an earlier post about aluminum rotors in OEM applications -- they were used in the rear on Plymouth Prowlers, and I believe (not sure about this one) that they were used on a Lotus vehicle. According to a very knowledgeable friend, aluminum rotors have some very nice characteristics, but unfortunately suffer from relatively low thermal capacity compared to cast iron, and would thus require an extremely (prohibitively?) large rotor to offer adequate fade resistance if used on the front in a heavy street car.

They use aluminum rotors on sprint car front brakes. The rotors get torn up bad and pads do not hold up well. But thats 1 place i know for a fact they use aluminum rotors

Yeah but the only time sprint cars use their brakes is to stop the wheels when they are spinning upside down after crashing and flipping over 10 times.
