these brands are less expensive but are tested with the same tests and requirements of the more expensive units. they are not deficient in any way. they are maybe a little heavier and may not have as many extra features but they will do the job designed for. I would find the best helmet for your particular needs. if you need an SA2000 helmet and you can only afford X amount of money then those are you search criteria. there is also alot of truth in the statement "how much is your life worth" when it comes to safety equipment. you need this equipment to race. if you can not afford it right now start saving or take up a different sport. racing unfortunately cost money even at the lowest levels.

Yes its a Very nice helmet BUT its a KART (K) helmet - won't pass insp for events requiring SA rated helmets.

No. No. No.... it's a SA certified helmet. The karting helmet is an SK-5.

Got a Bell Sport III from their Racer series today.

Originally I was looking at a Simpson Super Bandit or Bell M3, but the extra $200 to save a little weight was too much.

Yes. The SOLO Ontario Open House was there yesterday, so it was no taxes. They have a lot of helmets in stock and they help you decide what fits.

I've heard the $50 helmet vs. head thing before, but isn't a motorcycle helmet going to be more than suffiencent? Aren't they designed to save the head from the sort of impact we would inflict to our CARS? My HJC motorcycle helmet was $100CDN ~= $66USD.

motorcycle and SA type helmets are slightly different. they are also tested with different requirements. the thing is you will have to show the helmet to the tech inspector and if it does not say SA then you will not be allowed on the track. both will do a good job of protecting your head in most situations but one is required so this will have to be the one you use. consider safety equipment the "price of admission" to racing. all other parts will make the car faster, but the only required items are safety related.

motorcylce helmets are designed for one blow impacts.
IN a car, if you flip, you may be banged around more then a few times, thus the helmet will absorb more then one impact.

Second, a SA2000 Helmet uses Nomex lining. If you car catches on fire the inside of your helmet won't. While motorcyle helmets will.

I can tell you from personal experience that Motorcycle helmets will sustain more than one blow. I got into an accident at around 70 mph (on the interstate) and my head hit the pavement multiple times. I know that they are designed to sustain one blow, but they are capable of more than one blow. I'm not saying your wrong I just wanted to add that. Incase anyone is wondering about my accident. I was riding in a group back from Sturgis (South Dakota) and I happened to be caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. It happens sometimes.

Now I didn't know this. This is something useful to keep in mind. Thanks for the heads up.

I did some helmet searching and can't decide between these 2 helmets:

Simpson Vudo

or

Bell Vortex

Both are pricey. But it seems that there is a strong correlation with price and comfort in fit and air circulation and lightweight.

With the Vudo you are paying for aerodynamics you don't need. Unless you have an open cockpit. That Vortex one can have optional fans built into the helmet for air circulation...

Take a look at the Bieffe Predator. I have had the Bieffe F1, the Simpson LX+, and the Bell SR Pro and really like this one. They aren't terribly expensive either.

I think one of the most important aspects to consider is comfort when wearing a helmet. It's already been said by previous posters but you have to try the helmet on to see what fits.

For me, Arai helmets fit much better than Bell helmets. I'll pay the extra for an Arai helmet anyday for the comfort that it gives me.

ive used the arai bike helmets as well in the past and they r prob just as or even more comfortable than the gp helmets and cheaper. mainly got the gp helmet on the hope that ill get a race car drive sometime soon..
