NO doubt the only way to consistently track the FD is to have multiple cars available. I thought I had the black 94 track car sold but now I'm kind of glad I still have it because it will definitely come in handy.

I think you guys will need a Cup car to run sub 2:04. I'm not saying a street GT3 won't do it, but the vast majority I see aren't significantly quicker than I am, and certainly not quicker than Fritz is.

A very well driven GT3 w/ ALL the goodies running on slicks will run a 4 or 5 but by the time you have it all setup you may as well buy a cup car and do it with ease lap after lap and probably even cheaper

GT3 cup cars are for people with VERY deep pockets.

996 cup cars are great and depending on your driving and level of competitiveness. Engines are built for 30 to 45 hours though many have seen 100, just as many have blown before 30 hrs. 40 grand divided by 30 to 100 hrs - say 60 is still over 600 bucks an hour.... gearboxes last longer but need to be rebuilt every 2-3 years depending on how much track time you see. With those operating costs you could buy a new street GT3 every two-three years. You can get a lot more life out of these drive trains, but if you want to be competitive in PCA club racing you'll need to do the rebuilds. Like I said ballers own cup cars.


A well driven street GT3 with an aftermarket suspension and a cup car LSD can run 2:04s all day.

BOTTOMLINE: Running low 2 minute laps at VIR in a street car is for ballers and it will cost much more in a GT3 street car than a GT3 race car. I'll argue this with you all day.

A 2.04 in a street 996 w/ just coilovers and a rear end can only be done all day long if your name is Randy Pobst

The two GT3s I pass in recent video I have up are running r compounds (not slicks) w/ lots of bolt ons and those guys run 2.09s to 2.11s. Both good drivers/instructors who've been doing it for 10 plus years.

then those guys aren't really pushing Fritz. I'm telling you I've been in 02 GT3 running 2:04-2:06's on the full course. Dude, I'm running 2:12-2:14s in a 282hp/250 lb-ft heavy car without the fancy GT3 aero on used Hoos from Bob.

This year I'm hoping to get a 2:10 with the new sways dialed in and Yoko slicks. I know where I can pick up those 2 seconds...South Bend. I need to stop being a puss through turn 10 and carry more speed. It's been hard after my accident tho. Also, I'm sure I can carry more speed through NASCAR. We'll find out next week! You doing Chin 7/1-7/2? I'll be there with the usual suspects and the little lady this year.

I don't doubt that but I think there's a chance he had some other goodies in tow. If not it's not something I've witnessed w/o serious mods. Fastest I know for a fact was Eric Einstein's heavily modded yellow car running 5s. Rarely do I see even very well driven cup cars running low 2s at HPDE events. That's frikken blazing. At the last 1st Settlers event there was a heavily modded (cams lightened etc.._) black 997 running some sub 2.05s on yokos. He has the side plexi windows, stock brakes, big cam etc... so if you see him at Chin put a clock on him .

Several years ago a sub two in a GT3 would be great. Now the RX8, Pontiac, Porsche etc... are all running as low as 1.52s I think the sticky stuff helped quite bit which should also help your times. However your car just like my car and every other track car is slowly loosing compression and getting slower each track day which is also something to consider

I'm doing the BMW N course event the day after CHIN and will be in FL next week fooling w/ my baby girl. I tried to sign up but was too late registering but the N course is always a nice change and BMW is great to drive/instruct with.

I'll doubt you post any record times this in July but get a vid up of some hot laps

Adding 2 or 3 miles per hour in those two turns is a few hundredths possibly tenths or so but w/ slicks you should be able to add that most everywhere and T17 is where the clock is really ticking. Also as you are well aware most people Sunday drive in and around oak tree and tip toe from 4 to 6a.

Usually the people pushing hard are driving all out track/race cars so yes those GT3s are at around 7 or 8 10nths to a Pro drivers 10.

Wish I could of made it to the BMW event July 3-5, but I have some other plans. Let me know the next event you'll be at Fritz if you don't mind as I'd love to get some more instruction from you at VIR. We're getting closer and closer to getting the yellow car finished as well... might have it on the track by the next one.

The next one I really want to attend will be the PCA 1st settlers event in Sept which will be 2 days S and 1 day Grand E.

I might shoot for the NASA event at Summit in Aug but will do the time trial if I go there and probably won't instruct. Just chill and watch the mayhem

Great weekend of driving Morgen and Erin (Wife and daughter) came down so video, car maintenance and basically everything else was taking a back seat

Fresh tires for the 1st time in a LONG time so I really had fun the 1st day. Ran some 1.39s on the N course which is not too shabby and some folks at the track claimed I had some 37s and 38s but I think they may have been optimistic I was lifting a little early because of some micro cracks to the edge of the front rotors and a leaky brake line.

There were 3 other FDs on track, one of which was my green student in a bone stock FD and it was great watching him challenge the limits and experience HPDE for the 1st time.

That's great to hear!! Also glad that is sounds like Morgan is doing better as well. I was kicking myself all weekend for not making it out.

Looked at the data from Chin and I'm a little disappointed about my times and car setup. 2:13.89 was the best of the weekend. All the suspension tweaking that was done seemed to work great at Mid-Ohio and NJMP, but I'm getting awful wheel spin in Turn 1 and Oak tree- need to loosen the rear bar or change my line. The car feels awesome up the esses and through hog pen. I'm flat out in 4th gear with an entry speed of 139 and exit speed at 140.2 and bouncing off the rev limiter at the top. I tried shifting into 5th before the esses but the gearing in the US gear boxes suck and I'm a little slower on exit speed. I mustered up a little more speed in South bend this time, but still not nearly as fast as I used to be. The new aero bits helped braking on the back straight! I started braking a good 20 yards past the 0 marker, right where the road begins to go uphill. Pretty much caught most people there. Sorry to report that the two FDs in attendance were pretty slow- 2:20s according to my wrist watch and me terrorizing them in the Blue group They were far from stock...

Happy to report my student in a 87 FC was cooking in the Green group and was passing plenty of extremely high hp cars, well, not on the straights! Since I do most of the work on the FC and donated the seats, harnesses, and various other goodies I took it out for a session and managed a 2:31! I kept locking up the rear brakes and couldn't heel toe that car to save my life.

It was also nice to catch up w/ Ramon. See you all later this summer.

If the high speed corners feel good I wouldn't change anything on the car. In turn one w/ the new sticky stuff throw it in a bit faster, use that speed to get her turned, catch it, modulate and just after the apex you should be able to floor it while opening the wheel for a nice 4 wheel drift. However w/ that braking into one I'm guessing entry speed is probably not the problem Turn three is similar to 9 coming into 10 just a bit tighter and not up hill (slide could be more extreme) hehe but you should be at about 95 to 100 or so before you brake for 3.

If I'm reading correctly and you're getting 139 going into the esses and 140 at the top both you and your car have ***** of steel. I think I'm full throttle in 4th until turn in at about 135 in the red car (where I run up onto the N course to gather some extra track) then shift to 5th (to be kind) and the speed bleeds back to 120 or so over the 1st hump and I try to apply a little gas on the 2nd hump, on the way out I'm floored and get back up to 125 w/ the car sliding nice and even but if I try harder the back end will come out of the groove and slow me down before braking for 10. I am running 275 40 17s but I'm guessing the actual speeds are still very close to indicated maybe slightly higher.

Your braking into 1 is insane and I can't even comment. What's your speed before pulling that quad parachute setup you had custom made I brake at the 4.5 or 5 at around 155 when I'm pushing. I'm damn sure not copiloting w/ you because I'd have a frikken heart attach

PS: for all the FDs guys reading this Pat is now in a 993 911 (these cars have SICK brakes) which have invisible parachutes
