Aftermarket Body-cladding w/ tow hooks for offtrack recovery
Aftermarket Body-cladding w/ tow hooks for offtrack recovery
In the likely event that I'm going to go off and get stuck in mud. (Likely at Thunerhill and Buttonwillow Raceways) what are my options as to towing with my car likely to be getting a bodykit, as well as a FMIC.
Theres always something like this, but who makes them and were do they attach?

Most of the time they are made custom for the car. I made mine by adding onto the stock tie down hooks. I just added some loops made from 1/2 rod bent around and welded them on. The rear ones on an FC are bolted on the chassis in IIRC three plains, very strong. The front isn't quite as stout but will still let youdrag the car out.
You can get the flat ones at racing supply places and then you have to figure out how to attach it.

At the last few NASA events I've attended, the solid hooks have been falling out of fashion and a lot of people are running flexible ones made of loops of nylon tow strap or plastic clad steel bicycle lock cable. Why? Because when you're working on the car and smash your knee/shin into the metal one, it hurts!
Yeah, agreed Gene, that's becoming more typical out here as well.
to the OP, if you need a fabricator and can drive down to Santa Cruz, I can get you in touch with my guy.

I cut my front tow hooks off to mount the air dam for the widebody, glad to see this question come up. I have been trying to think of options without success. Bicycle cable, looped around the front bar may solve that problem for pulling the car around the drive when it's no-op.

I have a tow hook welded onto the strut tower under the hood. I guess it would work in an emergency just to get you off the track. Havn't tested it yet. I have one that goes through the rear of the car and out a hole in the license plate in the back. That one does work (tested it at the track...oops!)
