Great videos, looks like you guys are having a blast.
That's the one thing I love about NASA. The diversity of cars running really close lap times.

For sure! Last weekend at CMP, There was .5 seconds that separated 1st place and 4th place in TTS. I ended up getting 3rd on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday. and... in another state at the same time....

The other half of "Almost" Racing, Mr. Fritz Flynn, was at Summit Point also taking 3rd on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday and also breaking a sub 1:20 lap!! Not bad for an old timer! Just kidding dude, you look like your in your mid 30's and so do I... the only difference is 10 years... in opposite directions.

"Almost" Racing almost took the checker AGAIN! Hey in my book 2 seconds are as a good as one 1st especially when it's on two different tracks. Have I said how proud I am of your driving, seriously dude you are kicking some booty

It's not that I'm looking all that young it's just all that time you've been spending in the DESERT

Speaking of which we had a some injured veterans visit summit to go for rides and I took out a nice young lady who was a medic. I was driving fairly hard (30 minute session/like 1/2 tank of gas) and she was loving it just kept giving me the thumbs up. Probably all those helicopter flights.

Thanks for the compliments! Also very awesome about the injured veterans.

Went to Road Atlanta this weekend with MVP Track Time and drove/instructed. Really awesome event with TONS of track time and a laid back format. Highly recommend these guys events. I had several different students throughout the weekend and enjoyed them all. Gave alot of them rides that seemed to help alot as well.

JBurer came out and we did a few hot laps as well. Hopefully he had a good time. It was good to see you John.

I managed to get a couple of sessions to myself and ran a 1:36.4 with some light traffic. That's with my R6's that have 3 weekends on them now. I'm hoping to be sub 1:35 in a couple of weeks. Hoping for some cooler weather. I'll also have a set of sticker A's as well With my luck, I'll prob. end up with a 1:38.

Road Atlanta in 2 weeks with NASA-SE is my last event of the year. The GA RX-8 is going to have a large turn out. We will have a couple of motorhome/RV's, a tent of warmth, alot of food, and alot of booze for afterwards. Hope to see some of you guys there. 15 people signed up in my class. Going to be busy out there and alot of fun.

Awesome awesome day today at Road Atlanta! Jeremy Stone and Tim Benton came out as well as Dan Chadwick and Brian Johns. Sorry I didn't get to take you around. I really appreciate everyone coming and hanging out! All the GA RX-8 club was there as always. I had a good discussion with one of the guys at Penske and have a good lead on my suspension for my next season. I also ran a 1:35.2 with traffic I was on track for a 33.9, but got blocked on the back straight. Oh well, such is life. Got second overall... more tires. I'll take it. I'll have some video up shortly. 60 guys on track is busy!

Nah, they took our times from Saturday for starting grid on Sunday so I was like 6 or 7 starting out. Unfortunately, we hit the TTF and E guys pretty within 2 laps as you can see in the video when I pass the FB on the inside of 12 coming down the hill.

Didn't get any better time on Sunday. I was worn out, track conditions weren't as good, tires weren't as good. You know... I ALMOST had a 34.

I hear you, that's what kept happening at the Summit Point event because the track is so short. You'd start to lap the cars in the back of the field after 3 laps.

How did Wally and James do?

Wally set a new TTS record in the 29's. James blew his engine on Friday and didn't get to drive. Of course, his engine only lasted 5.5 years of racing. He already had a new one in the works for after this season from what Danny told me, but I'm sure they wish it would have lasted 2 days longer.

Hope you can make it WannaFD... just be prepared to be hooked. Plenty of track dealers out there though to support your habit.

Outside of Danny P that's the most confortable I've seen someone look driving a c5. He's ringing that car OUT. Also notice that sweet HT (probably only missed on one or two) work and that's not easy in a v8 car as you are well aware. His speedo is a good 5 or 10 mph higher than that track data. That car is ripping and gripping Check out the speed he's carrying into hog pin in that TTS 2.01 vid DAMN!

Somebody not checking their mirrors on the t1 incident (that sucks) but the p car may of over reacted as well.

Just watched Scotts vid and he's also looking good. Nice save after hitting the curbage. Is that some rubbing going on or just tire noise when he hits the curbs?

That's Mark Nunally driving in that video... the current number one of the C5 Mafia as we call them. Mark, Scott, and Jason all run TTA. Mark ran a 1:31.5 with a C5 Z06 with 275's and T1 sway bars... Wally ran a 1:29.6 in a fully prepped TTS car...

That is his tires sliding in the video btw. There was something in the turn. Scott came through and went off the next lap:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEYf65Hssr0

Scott had a 1:32 something

Those vids really show the difference in the two classes with similar cars driven well. Wally's car is faster through the technical 1/2 of the track (chicane until the short straight) by about 2 or 3 seconds which is basically the difference in their times. Marks car w/o aero and less tire is a full second faster down the main straight.

It's amazing how fast a well driven C5 is. Those cars have to be a top 10 contender for best car ever made for motorsports.

More vids PLEASE and thanks for sharing

PS based on the sound Mark's tires are making on those curbs it would seem prudent to stay off of them or the other side of the coin is they are sticky and help catch the slide. So tell me about those curbs?

Opps, misunderstood the question about the curbs. I thought you were asking when he broke loose. Yeah, just tire noise. The ones we hit are really smooth, despite the sound. It's just that tiny extra piece of usable track. There are several we stay off of because they have rumble strips in them.

Here's one of Brian Bowers(he was in the Silver C5Z at VIR w/ us and ran a 2:05.9, he and his dad use to run the Panoz in TTS) with me in front of him. At this point I was done trying to put down a crazy time, and just wanted to enjoy a couple of sessions before I'm out of the car for a looooong time. Running pretty consistant 36's and 37's. Still see plenty of room for improvement You can also see how much time I'm giving up in the braking zones when a C5Z gains that much on me. Breaks my heart a little, but the brake issue will be resolved over the winter.

Yep the brakes are killing you. You're such an agressive braker so I know that has to be making you nuts.

It's hard to believe those guys are lapping the C5 faster than the Panoz, once again the C5 is one hella good track car.

RA is like 9 hours away from me so it'll be a while before I have enough cash for fuel to make that trip....seriously though I was really close to coming down there this year so if the car continues to run well it could boost my confidence enough to run it at a far away place.

One more video for the die hard rotary club racers. This is our 17 year old friend racing his FD in the toy race on Sunday. He started DE's when he was 16, and started club racing at the start of this season and has done really well for being 17. 80 cars on track at once... crazy is an understatement. I think he finished mid teens. 14th I think. It's a sequential twins car. The last motor lasted somewhere between 10,000-15,000 track miles. Really nice car.

Sell an FD or two I'm actually not sure when I'm going to make it back either. I'd say their driving has improved and they are on stickier tires compared to when they were in the Panoz... but still, TTA C5's are pretty amazing for basically being a stock c5Z with T1 bar and 275 hoosiers.

Hey Pete,
When I got the car, the triple master cylinders were already installed in the car. You generally make a deduction that since the calipers and master cylinders are there, the master cylinders were matched to the piston calipers. They were not. That's on me too for not checking.
You also saw my pictures on facebook of my rear rotors and pads. I had actually forgot how much worse the 93-95's are compared to the RZ/Spirit R calipers. I only was able to get 5 weekends or so out of the rotors and pads in the with the 93-95. While I don't think there is any noticeable performance gain in stopping power, I don't want to deal with that... so I put on my RZ/Spirit R/99+/whatever you want to call them on before last weekend. Those rotors now have 1.5 seasons on them(prob. 50ish days on track) and pads lasts 20-30 days, a significant improvement. Once I crack these rotors, I'm going to send them off to Coleman to have a 2 piece made as stock rotors are 120 each from Mazda Comp.

Ideally, I'd like to have a your standard FD brakes as I feel they are more than sufficient. Power booster and ABS. Unfortunately, they goes through alot of harnesses and computers that aren't in my car. The S2000 is an independent system and I'm waiting to see how it does on Bill's car for next season. If it works out, I may end up with one of those, but for now...

Soooo... here is my plan:
First: Install the match master cylinders for the front and rear brakes. That will get rid of my extremely firm pedal which will allow for brake modulation and HT. This will fix the issue I have now once i get it right. Unfortunately, "in theory" and "real world/practical application" don't always jive
-Install the bias adjuster and brake bias gauge so I can quantify the bias and where it works and where it doesn't.
-better brake ducts: titanium rotor backing plates with the hose connection. The front bumper was already made for it.
-I'm also wanting to test a few more pads this year. I love PFC 01's for the front, I like the DTC 60's(not as much as I do the 01's). I also tried DTC 60's all around this year. Next year(actually 2012 most likely) I think I'm going start off with DTC 70's front, and DTC 60's rear since they don't offer the 70 in the rear. I may also try carbotech XP12's.

I'm also going to be revisiting aero some. Mostly on the sides/underneath/rear diffuser of the car. I'm very happy with the front end and wing combo, I just think there is more to be had.

It's also getting some suspension. Penske is currently number 1 on the list. They were at the NASA event last weekend and it turns out the Penske guy I was talking to owns an FD. Just had a 45 minute conversation with him. Basically he was explaining all of my options and answering all of my questions. They also offer advance shock classes as well as an option to come up and be there when they build your shocks. Rebuilds are very affordable and I can tell tech support is going to be second to none. Not to mention they are made in*in my best redneck voice* 'Merica, opposed to Pete's JRZ's Still looking at some more options, but we'll see.

Also looking at upper control arms and possibly a roll center correction. Depends on if my friend starts producing the ones he made.

So gain some time when the brakes are sorted, gain some time with some good suspension, and hopefully a little time further developing the aero. One of these days, I'm going to get a 2:00 at VIR(pushing Fritz all the way around as he gets a 1:59 ) and 1:30 at RA. It's a long term goal, who knows if I'll ever get there, but if they can... we can. I was the only car not 2000+ in the overall top 10 and I still think I have a better OEM suspension and brakes than those cars with the same engine. Unfortunately, I'm losing the brakes.

Everything else is good. I'm really happy with the car overall for this year. 2:06's at VIR and 1:35's(should of been a 1:33 if I hadn't hit traffic) ain't too shabby for a knuckle dragger like myself who is too stupid to quit.

You guys going to be tinkering around on your stuff this winter?
