Power FC tuning lesson
tuning lesson
I am tired of looking at my car in my garage not being driven because like many other RX-7 owners, I got the modification addiction. I have so much stuff done to my FD now but it does me no good because it's in desprate need of tuning. the car runs but very rough. it has basically the stock power fc tune right now set for the 850cc primary's and 1600cc secondary's i currently have along with a long list of other modifications. I want to learn how to tune my car. It has become very apparent over the years that unless you can do all the work yourself then your left in the dark and are relying on others all the time to get stuff done. Can somebody give me a crash course on tuning the power fc (keep in mind that I have no prior tuning knowlege). Cheers
buy Chuck's notes. Read the Datalogit manual. Read the PowerFC manual. Read Chuck's notes. Follow what he says. I just finished a few pre-tuning things per his notes and that alone has my car running much better.
Also keep an eye out for when Steve Kan comes tuning in Canada. Or just get a bunch of your Canadian peeps together and fly him out there for tuning.

I got a pm from him. I think I'm gonna order his notes and base maps to work off of. and Buzzardsluck, yes I have looked around and I have taken it to sevral guy's who only made matters worse and I dont have very many options like you do in Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Cali, etc. where there are amazing tuning shops like Signal or whatever. I have done alot of the work myself and my mechanic skills are decent but I have no tuning experience. Thanks gracer7-rx7 for your help. Cheers.
I was talking about searching this forum and the couple guides floating around, as I did. I haven't paid anyone for help but Chuck was nice enough to give me advise on timing.
Goodluck with the car.

tuning is not as easy as some make it out to be and can wind up being a $3k+ lesson to you. the info is out there, you just need to find it.

It also doesn't seem to be as difficult as some make it to be either, at least from what little experience I have. Especially with the right equipment, and a properlly running car. I think most people are just so afraid to try anything new for fear of something bad happening. Start conservative and work your way up very slowly, and the more times you do it the easier it gets, and the larger jumps you can make from conservative to where you want the car at. That is why the good tuners can make it look easy, because they have been doing it forever.

If you guys do some research there is TONS of tuning information on this website. There have even been some really good tutorials posted up. If you think your up to the challenge of tuining then you should be up to the challenge of doing your research.
