to tune or not to tune? tuner around St. Louis

Opinions appreciated. Is there a tuner near St.Louis? Do I need to tune or should I initialize and use the base maps. I purchased a used PFC and have the following performance mods intake, catback, smic and dp...waiting on a hi flo cat to arrive. I've written down all the contents for the maps that it came with. They don't look like any I've seen so far, supposedly it was programmed by PFS for a dp, cb, mp, smic, intake. Should I purchase a wideband and datalogit and try to tune myself or do I need a dyno? Where can I find some tuning how to(s)?

thanks Dave

you could buy those things and try your skills after careful reading if you have that much faith in yourself......or i'd try to get hold of badog in columbus for experienced tuning. he has all the gear to properly tune PFCs and is pretty knowledgeable with these things. once i have all my **** together, i will be giving him a call. i do have the wideband and FC edit software for his convience, though, as i want it as simple and easy for him to tune my car and have it done right.

Kind words, thank you!

Dave, I don't think getting a Datalogit will hurt you. Or even a WideBand kit like TechEdges. Okay, maybe hurt in the wallet. Total with WB O2 sensor might be around $750.

Yes, Spoolin' is right in that is what is needed to tune. Then you need to know what to change and how to intrepret the data. Not rocket science...wait...it's used in rocket science...nevermind.

There is a big event coming up in Indy. Check in the NE section. Maybe we can set something up for then. Let me know.

Regards.

just checked out mapquest and Columbus( assumed that was where you are) is about 7 hours away...anyway I was kinda lookin at trade offs ...having someone tune or getting the stuff myself...my immediate concern however is not knowing what my AFRs are since this PFC and its maps were not tuned for my car. I thought maybe I'd be better off just initializing them. I had heard the original maps were rich enough. What benefits would be gained by tuning the PFC.. how much more horse could be safely added? How much do you charge...you can pm me on the last question if you'd like.

thanks Dave

If you have all the hardware and it's hooked up and operational, you don't have to drive here to get tuned. You can be tuned remotely, relying on email. The basemaps are not the same as the "initialized" maps, for all cases. I not do that unless you have a Datalogit and safe off your current map.

PM for more details on the other stuff.
