Power FC - tuning questions - time estimate?
I have a Power FC map that has worked well for a couple years now. The mods i have ran with this map are.. M2 medium IC, M2 carbon intake, Downpipe, Apex dual N1, But i am installing 1300cc injectors, NipponDenso pump, and a N-Tech High Flow cat - I also want to raise the boost to 1 bar absolute. I am located in Utah where RX-7 tuners are slim to none. There are 2 dyno shops that say they can tune my power FC - one shop has not got me a quote or appointment in 3 weeks of me requisting. And the other shop says 5-6 hours at $135 to make those changes. My question is how long should it take and how much changing of the current map is required? The one shop says that the current map is useless and they would have to start over from scratch. This does not seem right to me - Ray @ Sr Motorsports said maybe a couple hours. Should i stay away from these shops and take it out of state to tune it? The problem with that is that here in Utah the altitude is 4,300 ft - and if I tune it at near sea level that will effect my tuning when i bring it back to 4,300ft - somebody give me some advice - thanks!!

you would be better off flying kan out there and having him tune it in your area.
anyone who says that your maps are useless is a nut (of course they want to start over..it will cost you more money to do so...if your maps are working then they would only need to do touch up work)...you can plug that thing in...datalog the afr's...and make minor adjustments to the fuel curve so that every cel reads 11.2:1 in boost. it is not that hard to tune fuel. timing on the other hand is not understood by everyone.
they can clean up that fuel curve in about two hours...very very cleanly. they take readings...if the cels are lean..they add a bit more fuel...for the rich cels they take a bit out....then they do another pull and check to see where they stand.
steve kan says he can tune on the street in an hour and a half..but on the dyno it can take three to four hours because the car should cool down between dyno pulls. he said he is able to tune most cars on the dyno in about two hours.
get three or four utah fd guys to chip in for his plane ticket and you will end up getting the tuning done cheaper than if you took it to those fools there locally.

good luck man. be very very careful. I honestly wouldnt let those local shops touch the car. piston guys...no way. get a real pro out there to do it right.
if you cant arrange that...order a datalogit...get a wideband....you can easily log the afr numbers and you can then take a bit of fuel out here and add a bit there until you get it perfect.

It doesnt matter to me how many there are. It could be just you. Price is $250 for a full tune.
