I actually still have the same question as Rx7 Restorations. Here in Cali smog is a bit of problem, I also wonder if there is a way that our RX7 can still be smog legal using the current modification and PFC without swapping everything out and plugging back in the stock ECU. I do believe that a main cat is still a must, but under the hood, do we still need to go back to stock for us to pass smog?
Another question is for the 4 wire we have to cut/remove, these are NOT USED in JDM cars, then those 4 spots on the PFC (which is design for JDM car originally) shouldn't receive any signal or care if there is any signal, right? why do we need to remove/cut those wire? Cutting mean that the module leads to these wire will not function for sure, does the PFC send out wrong signal if the wire still there? I am sorry if I come up with this stupid question, please flame on if you have any answer for this. Thanks.

Any explanations as to why this is important would be helpful for us of the more skeptical crowd.

I'm curious about this as well. I've got a PFC that I plugged in after having read the FAQ and yet not cutting the wires. The system took the time mentioned to learn to idle and then seems fine. I still need to really tune it so I haven't taken it out at speed. Not to mention I no longer have an EGR valve anyway. So, is there any final answer on what the real concern for cutting these wires is? Do JDM cars use these pins for other sensors our US models don't have? If so I'd see that as being a problem.
Any explanations as to why this is important would be helpful for us of the more skeptical crowd.

Does the split air still being wired up cause a problem? Contribute to stalling?

I drove a PowerFC without the wires cut before. The only thing I noticed was that the AWS would kick in and have the idle run at 3k after the fans kicked in i believe. There were no stalling issues, just a high idle due to the AWS. I drove it a lot too. This was a LHD.
I had to set the F/C to like 3500 to stop it from hunting though since it wanted to go to 3k but would cut fuel before that.
