Is it true that the PFC has problems supplying feul above 15PSI?
Can a PFC support a 6 injector setup?
#1 - not sure. I think you can adjust the range of the fuel map to go higher than 8k, though.

#2 - The stock MAP sensor on the RX-7 is maxed out around 15-16 psi. You'll need a wider range MAP sensor at that point - either Apexi's boost control kit or another aftermarket sensor.

#3 - it's supposedly been done, but most have had good luck with just using larger injectors.

My calibartion of three stock map sensors showed they were all good to about 17.5-18psi where they became linear. Thus 17 psi would be good. My tuning notes tells how to do this and has my values.

Dale think you prolly need to Highlight that the 4 wires that need to be cut dont need doing on a JAP car, i know it states that the 4 wires are for the US market only but i know of 3 people who have cut those wire on a jap car and 2 of them used your FAQ , Guess they didnt read it proply but i still think it needs highlighting so other JAP owners dont do the same as i think your FAQ is fast becoming general knowlage and essential reading.

Oh and i vote sticky 2

Dale,

You will need to update the link in your doc, now that our website has changed.

Thanks for the input on the FAQ! Just posted version 1.3 up. As usual, get it here -

http://www.clubrx.org/media/pfc/PowerFC_FAQ.pdf

Updates include new info for running a PowerFC on an S5 RX-7 (thanks to Banzai Racing), clarification on wire cutting for non-US cars, and a link to the how-to document for the working warning light.

It should be fine after the learning process if you have limtied or no mods. The base mod map (the map that comes on all new PFCs) is supposed to be able to handle an intake, downpipe, highflow cats, cat-back and intercooler. However, as the FAQ says in section D. paragraph 1d. every car is different so you'll want to make sure by checking your air/fuel numbers under load.

Dale,
Great post! I was wondering if you know anything about hooking up a wideband to the PowerFC, or if it's even possible with the PLX SM-AF.

Datalogit can integrate the PLX SM-AFR

If you have a Datalogit you can integrate the PLX SM-AFR and you end up with a very powerfull tunning tool. Here are a couple notes that explain things:

so why hasn't this been stickied yet?

Apexi is horrible about their instructions on US market cars, no where in any of their documentation is there any note about needing to disable the AWS/EGR/Split air, i was chasing down an idle surge for about 10 hours before doing any serious invesitgating and coming up with this thread and PDF which cured a very simple issue that most people still don't even realize when installing their PFCs.

Thanks for the links they should be helpful. Does the PLX hook up pretty much the same as the innovative? I see in your sig you have the PLX hooked up for datalogging. I'm basically trying to lean out the idle to around 14 range so I can get closer to passing emissions.

I successfully installed my PowerFC today even though I have no mechanical background! Took me about 2 hours because the 8 bolts are like impossible to remove >_>.

I did the idle learning process but when I got to the A/C part, my A/C didn't work. I know it was working before. Has this happened to anyone before?

Also, I'm not sure what Dale ment by reverse highlighting. Some bullets were on but thats about its I thought it was fine.

Should I be worried that the knocking bar increases when I accelerate?

Mods are as follows....
rebuilt engine with street port and 3mm apex seals
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
dual filter K&N intake with heat sheild
3" down pipe and 3" cat-back exhaust
Koyo Performance radiator
Aluminum AST (Fighter's Version)

Dale,

Much thanks. your FAQ's been a great help and reference for me.

Would you consider adding in how to calibrate the Map Sensor reading on the PFC?? i know you need a boost gauge or boost reading boost controller to set this up, but previous threads and chart about this voltage calibration is a bit confusing and hard to find in the searches. I'd very much like to have the boost reading on the map sensor exactly the same as the gauge and EBC.

That's in Chuck Westbrook's tuning documents package, and is a more advanced thing to do, so I think it's best left covered in his documents. If you're serious about tuning and you're at the point where you're looking at calibrating the MAP sensor, you really need to get his tuning documents.

BTW, I'm going to start working on an update to the FAQ soon .
