Question Low boost

Just installed a PFC along with a dp/mp and intercooler and I am only getting 7lbs of boost. Its a good pattern ( 7-5-7) but switching the settings on the commander has no effect.

I also just had the engine out to do turbo simplification, airpump removal, hose job. I am wondering if mabey it is a vaccum problem?? Amy help would ne apprecicated...oh, and i have already searched.

Thanks

Sounds like you replaced the hoses to the wastegate & pre-control actuators.

Those hoses had restrictor orifices in them which restrict the amount of air flow to the actuator which opens the actuator more slowly, increasing the boost level.

Dig through your old hoses, & try to find those restrictor pills.

I actually had a friend of mine do the vac system ( just did his a month ago w/ no problems) and i think all the old stuff is gone. If that is the problem couldnt I just put a metering valve inline on the w/g actuator hose?

thanks

his car is a 94, so the "pills" are built into the compressor housing nipples, right?

It's possible, but not absolute fact. That change occured at some time during the '93 production run meaning as many as half of the US model '94's had the pills...

Considering the described boost pattern I'd say this particular car needs pills.

You can put a valve in the WG line, but you still need something for the PC line as well, & trying to tune those two valves as well as the PFC could take some time. I've never tried it.

I guess you could just install a profec B & convert to non-seq for simplicity.

checked with the stock ECU and had the same boost level / pattern ( although it pulled harder from the lean condition)

I checked the nipples on the primary compressor housing and there are not any pills

gonna go get some metering valves and try that

thanks

No, with the Power FC as long as you have the PC set so you don't get spikes you'll be able to control boost via the commander.
