Breaking the pins off
Hey guys whats up? I just recieved my PowerFC, I dont like the idea of cutting my wires on the harness so much. I was wondering how would you remove the pins? Just bend the pins with pliers till they break off?

ok I opened it up... there is no way I can cut the metal wire underneath the top one. Is there a method to break off the pins at the harness interface? I just dont want to hurt anything else.

If Apexi really cared, they would have fixed the AC problem with the PFC which they haven't. It's been 7 years and the problem still exists. So much for the warranty.
Since a few options have been presented, do what NIKE commercials suggest: just do it and do not think about it too much, be spontaneous as long as it isn't combustion.

you can either break the pins off of the apexi box (what i did - i mean if i resell it anywhere within the US its not like they will need those pins anyways) - i'd rather cut off the pins than cut my harness.
OR
you can take the wire out of the harness - dale clark had some information on how to pop those pins out of the harness in which they are REALLY ez to put that in so he says - so this way you get the wires out of the harness with an ez job of going back to stock

...it's actually pretty easy to pull the wires out from the wire harness connectors...I can't remember exactly how to do it as it been quite a few years...
There are tabs on each side if the connectors, pry these and you can lift up on the top and bottom exposing the terminals.
The terminals have a barb on top and bottom that prevents you from pulling it out.
Apply a little pressure by pulling on the wire, then from the front of the connector insert a pin(I think you can also use and exacto knife) between the top of the terminal and the connector depressing the top barb. Do the same on the bottom barb and the wire should pull out. ...like picking a lock...you'll get the feel of it...(google video...lock picking)
If you decide to put back the stock ECU, simply slide the terminals back into the connector.
Like I said it's been many many years since I did it...once you know where the barbs are it's easy...

I actually just cut the wires back 2” folded over the ends and shrinked the ends, so I could just crimp solder and shrink without having to lookup color codes and double check if reassembly was necessary….not that this will be a problem for me, but if you feel that this could be a benefit for you…
But as was stated, not such a big problem, concentrate on doing it right and other much more important tribulations you are soon to encounter.

I'm a fan of backing the ends out of the electrical connector. You just need a sharp, pointed tool, like a scribe or dentist's pick. Took me all of 1 minute to back them out of the connector, and it's easily reversible.
I don't recommend breaking the pins off of the PowerFC, as there have been COUNTLESS people who cut the wrong wires when installing their PowerFC - if that many people have gotten a wire cut wrong, many more will break off the wrong pins, possibly resulting in a very broken PowerFC. Not to mention it's HARDER to break the pins off than back the connectors out. I'll take the easy, fast, and reversible method, thanks.
