apex 3 bar map sensor install

I just purchased a apex 3bar map sensor and I was wondering what needs to be done to the PFC to read the new map sensor, I have searched and found no real answer other than installing the gm one.

Some people said I need to set it up with the commander, just dont know where to go from there.

Also will this affect any of my settings..hopefully I dont need a new tune..

Sorry for the newbie question..

Kai

First calibrate your original map sensor to obtain true pressure vs PIM Absolute which is used in settings 3.

Secondly, after setting up the 3 bar, do the same for it.

Then match up the two calibrations by true pressure, replace the stock PIMS on settings 3 with the corresponding PIMS and no retune will be needed except for running more boost than previously tuned for.

If you can not figure how to do this (if you can then you are above average), search for my post on it.

Yeah- but if you want it to read exact pressure in accordance with your map, do as chuck says...he knows what he's talking about.

If you change it so that it reads proper Gauge pressure you will need a retune.

Personally I don't care if it reads a psi low so long as its tuned to that scale.

I just did a multi point check with a mighty vac and tweeked my PIM scaling to get it to match what the stock sensor read at vac, ATM, and 10 psi. Didnt need any retuning except at the higer boost levels of course.

Well I have an even dumber question. I bought the same sensor but have been waiting to install it because I want to check/calibrate it first. I'd be pissed if I just plugged it in and switched to Option 1 and then go pop...

But I haven't been able to think of a good way of applying calibrated pressure. Everything I have only does calibrated vaccuum. There must be an easy way I'm not thinking of. You said a mighty vac? How did you hold it at a calibrated pressure, or did it just work out to be around 10psi?

I don't think it's that simple. I have the complete Boost kit which has the 3-bar MS but also includes a jumper wire kit in which you plug in the 2-bar MS. This turns the old 2-bar in to a barametric pressure didlybop.

I beleive people are not completing this because the instructions suck sushi and therefore claim the kit does not work. I sure you can get the PFC to recognize the 3-bar by changing the settings but will not be as effective as it would be with the kit

My Observation: I couldn't tell any difference when installing the stock sensor onto the PFC. It didn't seem to perform any correction that I could notice (my boost setting didn't magically set itself to 0 and I was in the same cells as I was without it.) Besides, the 3 bar sensor is still a 3 bar sensor and doesn't require anything else to function just like the stock sensor, only with a greater range.

That said, the only function that I can imagine it might have would be as altitude correction for hill-climb type instances, where you start the car at a low altitude and go screaming up a mountain.

The 3-bar MS alone does not do the on-the-fly altitude adjustments. You will also need the OEM 2-bar and the wiring adapter to tap in to the computer. With this combination, the PFC will do the on-the-fly barametric fuel/air adjustments. BY itself, yes it's another 3-bar MS but it is an OEM 'Denso plug-n-play part.

You still have to tell the PFC that you changed to the 3-bar MS and something needs to be updated and/or settings changed to view more cells. Otherwise you can only go to 19lbs or something like that, forgot the exact details from Apexi.

You have to readjust your map scale. You only have 20 rows to work with, and stock, obviously it's scaled to have more resolution in the lower boost areas.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use the pressure sensor that comes with the AVCR for the power fc?
