what engine?

i posted here a few weeks back asking for your opinion on an 1984 rx7 with a ford granada 1978 2.8 V6 engine (auto). there was a few mixed opinions but after posting the same question on a few other sites ive been told to bin the engine

i dont own this car (yet) but am most likely going to buy it as a project. im fairly new to messing with cars to the extent of changing the engine and what engines will fit.

other than the obvious of putting an original engine back in it, what are my options? i want lots of bhp but dont want to spend a fortune, i live in the UK so the engine would need to be easy to locate in the UK, someone has suggested a 24V cossy engine?

and advice would be much apreciated

thanks

DON'T DO IT!! The reason rx7s are so special is because of the rotary engine. If you take the rotary out, then thats like taking the heart out of it. Thats just my opinion. Do what you want, i cant tell you what to do

the car already has the 2.8 v6. i dont really care to much about keeping it standard, it looks nothing like a rx7 anymore anyway. nothing about it is standard, i just need to find a better engine for it.

12a's are easy to find in junkyards if your looking to go back close to original or if you want some fun and maybe some wheelspin go with the motor out of a TII. or if youre really sick and twisted you could go as far as a 26B 4 rotor engine like the one in the 787b that won le mans.

Well then, you're in the wrong place. Did you notice the name of this forum? It's called the RX-7 Club. That's what we're about...RX-7's Why would you come to an RX-7 forum and ask about engine options, then shoot down the best advice you could get?? The only thing that makes the RX-7 special is the rotary engine. Without a rotary it's just another car.

Just my $0.02.

Actually, you're in the wrong place. Did you notice the name of this subforum? It's called "Other Engine Conversions." That's what we're about... other engines. Why would you come into the Other Engines Conversion subforum and insult people's right to be here, then start spouting off sanctimonious bullshit about how special the rotary is? We've all heard it and we all don't care.

Yea, I see how you've heard it...since July 27...with 8 posts. Quite the veteren. Sanctimonious?? Wow, I didn't know I could do that.

Anyway, I DO apologize to sharpydoo...when I made my reply the post was in the 1st Gen section...definitely the wrong place. It had been moved to this forum, but I had enough beer in me that I forgot that after reading it. But PBB ...you'll need to learn the right way to dispute things before I apologize to you.

sorry, i thought rx-7 club was for all rx-7 owners, which i am.
i havent shot down any advice, i was told "DONT DO IT" as in dont take out the rotary, if you had read my reply you would see the rotary is already out and theres a 2.8V6 there instead, however im looking to remove this and place it with something more powerfull instead of the rotary. u may be into classic standard cars, im into high powered performance track beasts. imo the rotary does not make the rx7 what it is, there are more powerful and much more reliable engines out there that will suit my needs.

It's totally ok if its really what you want. I'm sure it would be fun with a lot of torque and hp. It's your decision and do what you want
