I'm not just visiting over here to flame occasionally, I like rx7's too, its just annoying when people just spout random bullshit. There is alot of dis-information on this thread.

I am super jealous...I really would love to (after throwing a 3-rotor in my current 7) one day get another 7 and throw in the RB26dett, or I could just buy one I guess...would probably end up costing about the same...LOL

PS, he's kinda right about the clutch thing, but you also have to think about the fact that if you're making 1400hp out of 2.6 liters (or even 2.8 liters if you have a stroker kit) You are going to have turbo lag clearly north of 6k rpms, that should be relatively easy to keep ahold of in traffic, however since signal auto's fastest GTR only has around 1200hp, I really don't think there's alot of car's with that much power, I'm guessing less than 10 in all of japan. Also if I'm not mistaken, the most powerful GTR on the planet is down in Austrailia, and just the shortblock costs 50 grand, no turbos, no fuel, no tranny, no anything. www.exvitermini.com IMHO one of the sickest cars on the planet. More than 1350hp, 13,000 rpm redline, doesn't use wastegates to control boost, it uses rpms. Sick. [/B]

Only a mere 1.4 million yen...I think thats in the 12,000 dollar neighborhood if i remember my Yen to USD.

Another factor would be regarding weight.... if you take a look at some 2JZ swaps, which i suspect would be roughly the size of an RB26DETT, look how much is in front of the front wheels, that could lead to hideous handling
still... if your dragging, go for it, any RB is a badass motor, and an RB20 would be a big less compromise as far as size and handling goes.

well no doubt to fit the I6's in there you need to make custom engine/transmission mounts anyway, so you can set them back a bit more in the car to help offset the weight.

The stock pistons are good for about 550-600 (Non N1 Block Pistons). Any more than that, and you want to upgrade to forged. It will probably hold up for some garage queen or occasional weekend car. Drive or beat on it, and those stock pistons will take a **** real soon.
At that power level, the RB will puke out it's oil pump, that's for sure. The oiling system on the RB sucks.
AXMDR787BOY: I have been to japan a few times, and well in the car community there too. 1400 hp daily driven skylines do not exist. In fact the 2jz-gte is 100x the bombproof motor the RB26 is. Just a fact. Top secret does wierd swaps, not because it's better, but because they can. The RB has higher revs and a more unique sound than the 2jz, but top secret does not have a limit as to what they spend on their builds.
How many 6 second 2jz powered cars exist: A few.
How many 6 second RBs exist: 0 (for now)
I know this: RBs take DEEP pockets to do right.

I know there isnt as many RB26s in the USA, but there are thousands of highly tuned ones here, and though they can do the power, they are far from bulletproof.
Rotating iternals rarely fail, due to GrpA Homologation rules the standard rods, pistons, inlet, manifolds etc etc had to be used on the race car, so it has some great pieces.
BUT people here, despite so many producing amazing power and times over here, seem to have constant engine troubles, though I think most are oiling issues- Just fitting decent bearings, decent oil pump, and head oil restrictors is far from enough.
Id feel far less worried about my engine blowing if I had a JZ under the bonnet to be fair.

I know this may be a little off, but go pick up the 4/10 issue of Super Street.... RB26 in an FD.
Fxckin Siiiiiiiick setup... Nearly 900 ponies.
The big question, though: 2J or RB in an FD shell?
1000hp Supras aren't anything odd (Hell, look at 'Titan Motorsports,' in Orlando FL. That's what they're known for), and the RB rocks just over 600 before popping the head open... While both are formidable swaps, My money is on one or the other...
The JZ has the ***, while the RB has the class.

Sorry for reviving this thread from the dead but after reading this thread, I'm seriously wondering whether to do a RB26 swap with the 25 tranny for RWD or do a 20B swap. I guess it all comes down to cost. Which is less expensive?
Thanks,
Alex.
