Rb26dett Swap

Hello, I was woundering If anybody has ever done the rb26dett swap. I seen teh 2jz but not a rb swap. If not i was thinking of doing something like that is it even possible. post your opinions here and what do you think?

well, the rb26dett (as far as i know) has a awd tranny setup, so you would either need to find a rwd tranny that would work, or go awd .

i know a while back top secret did a supra with a rb26, it was quite the beast...

The rb25det tranny is rwd and will mate with the rb26dett. Also, you'd probably consider using the rb25det oilpan. You mave have to modify the pickup, but it's (the oilpan) a little smaller I believe.

there was a guy in hawaii doing the rb26dett/fd swap, but i haven't heard any updates for awhile.

Yep, that's exactly correct. I haven't heard of the need to modify the oil pickup, but I don't know for sure.
The rb25det tranny is plenty strong enough if anyone is wondering, basically the same transmission as the rb26dett tranny but rwd only.

I also don't know of anyone who has done this swap, but I imagine it would basically run into the same challanges as a 2JZ swap would.

Not all RB25 tranny's are RWD.... they make then RWD and AWD....

i know a while back top secret did a supra with a rb26, it was quite the beast...

WTF? Why would anyone do that? Swapping an inline 6, for another evenly matched inline 6....

Assuming it was an MKIV.

actually, as much as I love skylines, I think the 2jz has the rb26dett beaten....

The rb25 never came awd, I'm 90% sure on this one.

that is correct, the rb20det did not come with AWD. the ADW models of the skylines were the GTR, and those came with RB26dett's.

although the 2jz is bigger, the rb26dett has more power potential. the head design is better and will make more power than a supra when evenely equipped.It doesn't really matter though because both engines will support crazy amounts of power and anything over 600hp will cause you to **** the ceiling!

I have seen dyno graphs of street driven 1300hp rb26detts and 1000hp 2jz's. damn thats crazy!

Yeah, you're right. I was confusing the GT-S and GT-R for some reason. I'll schedule a beating for myself later.

well the record for a STOCK MOTOR in a MKIV with bolt ons is 980whp so I really doubt that the RB has that beat. I have also heard of and seen the results of many built 2JZ's that have well over 1200whp. Do you think a built motor isnt streetable? The motor in Bullsihes solaras could be used on the street it would just be a little hard to handle once boost hits.

I was thinking of performing this swap once i get a rolling shell rx7.
Wonder how hard it would be, with the 6-speed tranny as well..
Has anyone tried it? pics?
what about a sr20det into a rx7?>

it will not be a "bolt on" affair, that's for sure. the sr20det has been done and it's a monster(low 10's@ almost 140)

The owner of Top Secret in Japan put the RB26DETT in the JZA80 because he wanted the best of two worlds. The best Japanese performance engine, and the best chassis. There are alot more hardtop Supras in Japan, and they cost about as much as a used Mustang does in the US.

The RB is a proven better motor than the 2J. There are 1400+HP daily driven GTRs in Japan. Of course they turn the boost down though. I have a dyno video somewhere of a GTR pulling 1443 AWHP! There were two guys in the car and three guys sitting on top to keep it on the dyno.

980 RWHP on a stock SHORT BLOCK, not motor. The pistons, rods, and crank are stock. Everything else is not stock... Though, that is still INSANE. It has more than bolt-ons. The built head doesn't count as bolt on.

Even an RB25DET would be fine it has a rwd tranny and though the head design is not quite as nice as the 26 it could still be worked on alot. And as far as i know the 26 block is identical to the 25.
As far as streetability i personally would never drive anything with more than 800hp on the street because like AXMDR787BOY said that would require some very high pressure clutches that are like an on off switch and that would be way too dangerous and you'd be either stalling or doing huge burn outs when stuck in traffic

The record for a stock motor is 980 at the rear wheels. That is stock rods, pistons, crank, head, everything. Upgraded turbo system, fuel, and standalone ECU. That guy's name is peter and he runs the big Supra meet down in texas. I'm not just visiting over here to flame occasionally, I like rx7's too, its just annoying when people just spout random bullshit. There is alot of dis-information on this thread.

PS, he's kinda right about the clutch thing, but you also have to think about the fact that if you're making 1400hp out of 2.6 liters (or even 2.8 liters if you have a stroker kit) You are going to have turbo lag clearly north of 6k rpms, that should be relatively easy to keep ahold of in traffic, however since signal auto's fastest GTR only has around 1200hp, I really don't think there's alot of car's with that much power, I'm guessing less than 10 in all of japan. Also if I'm not mistaken, the most powerful GTR on the planet is down in Austrailia, and just the shortblock costs 50 grand, no turbos, no fuel, no tranny, no anything. www.exvitermini.com IMHO one of the sickest cars on the planet. More than 1350hp, 13,000 rpm redline, doesn't use wastegates to control boost, it uses rpms. Sick.

Stagea, R33 series had a 4wd Rb25 and I think there was also one in the R32 series.
C34 Laurel also ran a 4wd RB25.
