I dont see anything wrong with the swap, I just LOVE cars. And being a mechanic I work on cars (Pistons 99.99999% of the time Fuel Injection 90% of the time etc. etc.) So since I do so much work on those engines, I need something different at home. Otherwise it would just get boring and repetitive.
To each his own! if its what you love than do it! And flames are not very common in the 1st gen section. Although I wouldnt mind taking the rotary and its tranny off of your hands

i think this is pretty cool... i mean an engine is an engine.. and im kinda getting sick of how expensive rotary is... im not a hater.. but i think i may do the same... i just never thought about if b4 thanks...
just wondering. where do you plan on routing the exhoust? i thought a good place would be to just cross it undernieth the driveshaft and then to the normal spot..
just a note on how cheaply you can do turbos on ka24e or de motors

pretty impressive for a 700$$ turbo kit..
also what did you plan on using for fuel controll? the usual stock computer/safc/wideband and bigger injectors or go all out and standalone it?
thanks for the inspiration..
hey you drive a 240 hurry up and paint that thing flat black eh!!

#1...im putting a KA24DE (2.4L 4 banger)
#2...motor and tranny are for sale for 50 bucks (picked up) (tranny is in great shape, not 100% sure whats wrong with the motor...possilby needs carb rebuilt) Car sat for 3 years so, i think the car probably somewhat dry rotted, and has some major vacuume leaks.
#3 I have weighed both of my 240s (one has a SR20DET, the other a KA24 (turbo'd) the one with the SR20 weighs 2600lbs without me in the car, the KA24DE car weighs 2550lbs (and has more power options). i dont know why my KA weighs less, but it does. All in all though, i believe that the SR wieghs ever so slightly more in stock trim than a non-turbo KA, but with turbo, i would think it would be 50lbs heavier. (roughly)
#4 I plan on not running a turbo setup thats only $700 in this car, i plan on spending around 5500 on rebuilding and turbo'ing this KA24DE. As far as fuel management, i plan on running a Enthalpy tuned ECU, 850cc injectors, t3/t04e turbo (.50 trim), with a SAFC II, and a PLX M300 to monitor the A/F.
#5 As far as exhaust...im not 100% sure yet, i have really yet to think about, as im more concerned with other issues that will plague me first (wiring and engine mounts)
Well im tired...if you think of anything else to add, or ask...go for it...but for now. im going to bed...nite

The KA24 is a great choice for pistons in a RX-7. While some may disagree with what you are doing, if rotary support does not exist wgere you are then it's only logical to to go with what is good and you have experience. Recently I was working 600 miles from the nearest rotary mechanic and feared the cost of a tow if I had a major problem.

I'm just kidding with you driftking, I think your project is great and I look forward to seeing it come along. With a deal like that on the engine and transmission, I would probably do the same thing, but with a lot less expertise. The good news is that 4 cylinders are better than 8 cylinders, but 0 cylinders is still best!

Have fun with your swap, enjoy your car, and don't listen to anyone's complaints about changing engines. It's your car, you get to live with it, so do what you want.
People seem to forget that "Hot Rodding", which is basically what we do, started by guys 60 years ago taking the motor out of one car and putting it in another. It's a long and distinguished history where nobody ever brought up "the soul of the car" or any other b.s.: It was all about going faster. Put in your motor, turbo that bitch and go faster. Nothing wrong with it.

Someones done a kickass turbo 4 FB already. Ford 2.3T with a T04B V trim, not a 50 trim hybrid though... you could be making over 400 to the wheels with the right internals and tuning The website is www.boostbros.com
You got even more displacement and better heads from the get-go, so you should have no problem... well, excpet for trying to make it hook up

Im probably going to max out the 60 trim T3 (.63 a/r hotside) that was on the 2.3T (and if it had a IHI, Id replace with one of the T3's because theyre so cheap and IHIs barely support 200 whp) while I open up the engine's head/intake/exhaust and get ready to put on a cam and a hybrid or a holset down the road.
I figure 300 whp (about the max anyones ever gotten from a 60 trim T3 on one of those motors... with a nice cool FMIC) should keep me happy for at least a while and let me get used to that much power in such a light car
One thing though - you got any of the RB or SR fanboys hanging around where you live so you can go kick their *** and tell them how you spent a FRACTION of the money they did? If ya do, could you put it on video?
I get SUCH a kick out of people spending 10grand on some JDM TYTE SWAP, YO and sneering at a more logical choice because its a 'truck motor' (BTW, the 2.3T sounds like a tractor... )

Well!!! finally got some real progress done...but im unfortuantly at a stand still now. I got the motor test fitted in! As you can see it is a great fit. have aoub 7 inches of play room on each side.
To make the motor fit i had to cut out the original engine cradle center...Which sucked. But got it done, and got the motor tested, Motors are so close to the same length and size that, even the tranny shifter comes up in the EXACT location...so no modifing needed. Now as previously stated im at a stand still now on putting the engine in permaently. The Company (Twisted Customs Rockcrawlers) cant get me in until about a month from now, sooo...looks like im about to get started with some body work...which is fine...will take about a week to get it where i want, and to get the car somewhat painted.
So thats my update for now...enjoy.

It went here:

Looks like he sold it (after having some fun with it).
