engine swap
i think it would be the most unique thing ever done.
besides, i could take off in overdrive uphill better than a rx7 can in 1st...
then ill take the hatch glass off and put a gooseneck on the middle

Well, I thought it might be pretty interesting.
The only problem would be the weight over the front wheels.
But I think for the reliability, gasmileage, and performance...
a used cummins engine can be find for around 2k, and thats with the injector pump...

Youd need a longer final-drive gear to use a diesels powerband unless you have crazy transmission ratios.
Well, that and if you wanna go diesel go find some expensive aluminum audi ****.

A cummins 6.7 weighs 830+ pounds. If I'm not mistaken, which I might be the 5.9 is the same block as the 6.7, but with cast iron instead of alluminum heads.
Thats without the trans, which would also be very heavy. But on the positie side A fully built cummins can make 900 HP and 1600+ trq. My co worker has a 5.9 powered truck and claims to get around 15 MPG no matter how much weight the truck is loaded down with.

I would take the 5.9 and make it into a trike like Jesse James did with the 18 wheeler cab.
5.9 Cummins is 1,000lbs.... When you braked I think you could get the rear wheels off the ground..... he he he
Maybe you should look at the 4BT which is a 4 cylinder Cummins and only about 750lbs
.
Or get an LS1/T56 and get 25mpg+ on the highway and be able to run 10's, 11's, 12's and retain the 50/50 weight balance.

Be sure to use an 800 pound transmission to handle all that torque: http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/products/PS13.asp
