Weber IDA oil metering

Hi all,

Been awhile, I haven't been very active on the forum much lately due to having to move recently and just being busy in general.

I'm curious what kind of oil metering setups you guys have on your 48/51 Weber IDAs, mainly the oil metering rod. My pal just put a 12A bridgey from one of his race cars into my RX-2 but the oil metering pump has a metal cable attached to the carb instead of a rod. I've never seen a setup like this before. I'm sure it works, but the cable rubs on the intake a little so I may want to switch it over to a rod type. I am just trying to figure out the best way to attach the rod, does RB or someone sell this type of thing? I can snap some pics once I dig out my digital cam if you need to see what I'm talking about.

oh and I need to ask wacky about that progression hole mod, I want to check if it's done to my IDA. I'm thinking not because it seems either on or off with no inbetween when taking of from idle.

thanks,
Mike

with the oil metering pump, it doesnt matter if its cable or rod provided that it works. there are 2 types of IDA: top pull (fuel inlet facing the engine) or bottom pull (facing passenger side). Its easier to modify the linkage on a bottom pull but for top pull, it is very tricky and most guys wont even hook it up. Instead, they will just use a cable or whatever to keep the OMP on 100% open position.

Now to check the progression hole, you have to remove air/fuel mixture screw and the plug below it. its easier to check if the carb is off the car. A fresh off teh shelf items or unmodified IDA (VW specs) came with 2 progression holes, this apply to newer IDA version as well.

I used a piece of steel rod and bent it up to clear everything. Check out the pics, you can kinda see it.

I know its not an IDA (dellorto DRLA45) but I actually changed the setup over to an IDA and did the same thing.

hop you get it working.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I had considered bending up some steel rod & adapting it. I guess my cable works, it just seems a little loose and I don't see any easy way to tighten it as it's crimped together. I'll tinker around with it.

thx on the progression info, I guess I should have checked that before the carb was on the car.
