RX3SP vs RX3 Interior Questions
Hey guys & gals,
I need some help gathering info on the SP interior. Other than the rear quarter panels not having window cranks, are there any other differences between an original RX3SP interior and an original RX3 interior? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,
There are a few differences between the earlier RX-3s and the later RX-3 RX-3SP. Some changes to the interior started with the 1976 Rx-3. 1972-1975 models were pretty much the same.
Steering wheels on the pre 76 cars were woodgrain three spoke wheels. 1976-1978 were padded vinyl open three spoke wheels.
Radio location was changed from the center of the dash to the shifter console on the SP.
The "Rotary Engine" plate was eliminated after 1976.
Door panels on non Sp models had a strip of carpet along the bottom edge and a chrome strip running across the center. The SP had plain vinyl, no carpet or chrome on the panel.
Shift **** on early cars was a woodgrain **** and changed to a padded vinyl after 1976.
The horn button changed and logo changed three times 72-75,76 and 77-78.
The seats on the SP were available in plain black vinyl or vinyl with plaid inserts (red, blue or yellow) the earlier cars had all vinyl in black, white and even brown (rare).
I think there is a "overheat exhaust system" idiot light below the choke **** starting in 1976.
The last photo os a Japanese spec 1976 Savanna (RX-3). Check out the round style guages on the center stack and leather seats with lacing!

Another RX-3 SP
Thanks, John & Mark. This is great help!
I'm also restoring 77 RX-3 SP, I'm in Jacksonville, Fl.
Do you guys know of any other links and resources for reference photos likes the ones Mike posted, also colors that were used on SPs and current available paint codes that match?
Any places that restore or source the dash, consoles, plastic interior and exterior trim?
How about availability of the decals?
I'm just getting started and can use all the help I can get. Will try to post some pics soon.

any automotive paint supplier can mix ANY color. the paint code of ur car is on a matal plate located on the firewall and says paint code: followed by a letter of the alphabet, then a number. my '75 808's code was D9.

John,
Thanks for the valuable info! I appreciate you, Bro. I've found an SP shell with the dashboard only. The rest of the interior is missing and was wondering how difficult it would be to come across the SP's interior or if it was interchangeable with any RX3 of the same year. Your info and pics are definitely putting me in the right direction! Thanks again.
Carlos,
Good luck to you. Unfortunately I haven't located anyone yet as I'm still in the process of locating a good SP to restore. Let's keep each other informed.

A lot of the interior pieces of the SP are interchangeable with the 76-78 808 Coupe if you happen to come across one. The 808 is the piston version of the RX-3 but are about as rare. The door panels, steering wheel, shifter **** should be the same but it has to be a coupe. The sedan 808 will be different. I think also that the seats out of a 1977-78 GLC are the same as the SP seats (I think).
hey guy's the rx3sp's came in 7 different colors white, silver, blue, lime green two shades of yellow and orange never in red . as for the interior most of them did come with the plade interior but you do find them with all black interior and rarely with the brown interior the plade part was located in the center of the seats yellow had yellow plade orange had orange plade blue had blue plade only the white and the silver didn't follow the color scheme . the sp,s never came from the factory with all the things you see on most sp's ( the stickers, the wing front scope side window louvers or the shadow louvers, for the back glass , all that was optional and put on at the dealer . the guy with the interior description was right . panels never came with the carpet piece and the shifter *** was leather or vinyl. Also the sp had very little chrome just on the nose cone above the lights and across the point of the nose ,every other trim came painted in a dark gray almost black the bumpers also came dark gray never chrome i believe that the door handles were gray also . if you need any other information i have 4 rx3's in tampa and two in cali at my friends house i also have sold a few sp's this year to be exact 5 of them so email me at gonzalezhump@hotmail.com . i also have a few parts for sale
