Turbo version of Rx-8 engine confirmed!
I just read in a magazine that Mazda has confirmed the development of a turbo version of the new Rx-8 engine! Apparently it will produce in excess of 250kw compared to the n/a versions 175kw. They didn't say whether it will be available as an option in the Rx-8 or if they're planning on building some special version but it sounds pretty good nevertheless.

I hate to be the pessimist but none of this is confirmed. Its in a magazine so its all just speculation. I'm not saying that its not gonna happen but I would like some coroborating evidence from Mazda.
As excited as I am about the return of the rotary I wish Mazda would start "leaking" new 7 rumors. The 8 is cool and all but I'm waiting for a new 7.

Yes... and please, Mazda, learn from your past mistake and don't just offer the turbo engine in the next-gen RX-7... it's not only more expensive to purchase and maintain, but to insure as well. I wonder how much better the FD would have sold, if they'd have made a N/A version of it, like the other Japanese supercars (that not coincidentally lived longer in the US) did.

It is obvious the RX-8 is the beginning of things to come for Mazda, just like the SE-R Spec V was the beginning of things for Nissan with the 350Z. Although there is no official word from Mazda nor any other source at the moment, rest assure that a next generation RX7 will come or something to take its place, and its not the RX8. Look at Nissan, the 350Z according to sources was never going to be available in Turbo. Well Nismo has already developed the VQ engine with a turbo and is being tested in the GT-R making power in the 360-400hp range..
