Is there such a thing as an Rx-3 Super Sport?

I found a pristine (Restored) Rx-3 with the original orange/red paint, stripes and such. The owner claims is a Super Sport. I don't have the VIN number yet but will get it hopefully this coming weekend.

He wants 4k for it. He claims it will fetch a lot more than that since it's pretty much original (restored). The engine has been rebuilt. The car was stripped down and the frame was sandblasted and repainted. The same was done to the body....all pieces were removed from the interior and the entire chassis was repainted factory orange/red color. The front has the popular nose cone and all the badges are on the car.

Was there a Super Sport Rx-3 in the US? I've heard of a Super Deluxe, but wasn't that only available in Australia and Japan?

Super Deluxe was the Aussie model. We didn't get the SP or any Savanna's factory delivered here.

Yeah, it's the RX-3 SP not an RX-3 Super Sport. Should have some 70's-looking tacky stickers and a front splitter, or it least it should have left the factory that way.

SP's also had a reversed intake manifold setup and the "short nose" differential that can use gearsets from a 1st-gen RX-7 or a '94-up Miata among other cars. The non-SP RX-3 had a longer snout.

Update!!

Well, it took a while but I finally got the VIN for the 77' Rx-3 SP ----> S124A183330
Once again, the car has a Bridge ported 4 port 13B , Holley 4bbl, new transmission and original diff. Interior was redone and the entire body was sandblasted off of the car and painted orange. It has the black louvers on the side windows as well as on the back. Has the original hex lights and the nose cone front. The only thing I don't like about the car is the rear bumper.....this thing is big. It just doesn't look good.

I will have this car....oh yes, it will be mine.....but at 4K, we are working on that as we speak. Pics will follow soon.

On a side note...I think you all will like the Yellow Rx-3 SP we are working on. I don't have all the goodies listed on this one yet but, supposedly, this car runs mid 13's...no numbers yet but if everything goes as planned, I will have time slips to post by this summer. Well, no promises yet but pics will follow very soon.

Till then,

I am sure it is a real sp but, another way to tell is the rear windows should not roll down. Also, the front and rear seats should have plad (Spell?) cloth sections. Does it still have the factory front cow plow spoiler?

The entire interior was re-upholstered, so I don't know about the original seats, I'll ask. As far as the side windows, they do not roll down. The spoiler is not on the car, but he mentioned that he had a lot more parts for the car in his garage and I haven't seen them.....we'll see.

The real problem is the title. The owner now got the car as a transaction from someone that owed him money...so the title was in the original owners name, not his friends nor the guy that has it now.....so it's up to me to figure out what the hell I'll need to do to get this title under my name.......

better check with the DMV and see if there is outstanding registration or penalties for this car and have current owner pay/straighten it all out. you don't want to get hit with big $ in order to transfer ownership in your name.

other than that, sounds like a KILLER car. quite the piece of Rotary History. enjoy it!!!

Are they hex or just rectangle? The SP orignally only came with rectangle ones. Not hex ones. Any ways just curious. Sounds like a nice car.

I stand corrected.....you are right, they are the rectangular ones.....the hex lights are on the other Rx-3 (Yellow one)...... I will be negotiating for price and those hex lights....I think the hex lights were on the Ausie and Japan models only....anyone?

EDIT: I will be posting pics as soon as I get the digital camera...should be this weekend.....*keeps fingers crossed*

I would have to say your right there, as far as I know. They also had a rotary shaped taillights too. But from what I have been reading, Those stayed in Japan and came only on some Rx3. I want to say S1, but I dont know 100%. I have been told those tailights can go for some money. I talked to a guy that said he seen a pair go for 7000 AU dollers.
