Swapping front cover, oil pan won't fit. Help?
I am building a '74 REPU and dropping in a 13B from a '91 RX-7. The motor mount connection points from the '91 won't work, so I decided to swap the front cover off of a spare 12A I have onto the 13B because it has the correct motor mounting points. Alas, the oil pan does not fit now. Attached are pictures of my dilema. The 13B pan does not reach far enough forward because the old front cover reaches further out and the 12A pan does not reach far enough back.
Would an oil pan from maybe an '84 13B RX-7 work? Does anyone know if the engine mount points were in the same location - at the front cover? Any other creative solutions? Thanks in advance!

PS .. you need your 12a front cover
( though the GSL-SE front cover is preferred as it brings all four OMP oilers ..
you can modify the 12a one to accept a 4 way oiler , tap one hole and notch another )
you will require a timing chest gasket that suits either large hole ( post 88 ) or small hole ( pre 88 ) O ring oil passage
( s4 and s5 engines have a changeover point mid production to the larger hole and nylon support ring for it ,, you often dont know what you have till you pull timing cover off )
take care and have each engine rocked back pointing the pulleys in the air all the time while you undo the big front pulley bolt
( read.. TORRINGTON TRAP.... GOOGLE )
also. if you have a s5 engine .. you have to grind the back of the water pump housing to get it to sit flat with the early timing cover underneath
else you can fit the 12a water pump ( and housing ) if you silicone the extra ( now hidden ) bolt hole for the alt bracket

Oh, wow. With all that, it sounds like it might just be easier to fabricate different motor mounts. Thanks for the info. I will definitely take it into consideration!

nah, all pretty standard stuff for converting the post 86 engines to oldschool , it is actually pretty easy
all you need the 12a cover and the oil pan, RTV silicone and a timing cover gasket ..
( RTV is for the sump.. dont use RTV on the timing cover gasket ,. note small passage to feed the OMP through timing cover )
just barely crack the threads on the big front pulley bolt before flipping engine up so that gravity holds the front stack in place while you mess around swapping covers
.. dont drop it down again till the bolt is just over finger tight when assembling
if you wish to run a carb then you will also need an adapter plate to use the oldschool inlet manifolds
( you can get some specialist manifolds to go straight to weber carb etc )
PS if 91 engine, more than good chance you need the big hole timing cover gasket N386-10-502
