starter help !!
have a rail that i swapped a rotary into , using a kennedy engineering adaptor and megasand tranny.
problem is i need slightly more cranking speed to start it!
i am currently using a 6 volt vw starter but it is not quite enough. just as the engine is about to fire it kicks the starter out. if i spend 15 minutes cranking it and the moons are aligned it will fire up.
anyone know of any solutions?

it uses a 12v flywheel.
12 volt system running a 6 volt starter will spin faster. the starter has been modified with a 12v gear.
as i said i need more cranking speed . surely one of the vw guys has an idea?

Have a look here ,they sell a hi torque starter that is 12 v drive with 6v teeth. No need to change the flywheel.

Hope that helps

if u need more cranking speed than what a 6v starter on 12v can provide, somethings wrong. rotary doesn't need to spin THAT fast to start one. i think the cranking rpm was posted on this forum a while back but can't remember. but i'd guess around 400-500 rpm. now i have spun one with low compression with 2 12v in series on a 12v starter. but it does burn the starter up fast. maybe that's the problem.

If you had a tighter engine it would start fine on the slower high torque starter.
My solution for your current situation is to get yourself a 16V racing battery with a 12V terminal as well. Send the full 16V to the starter and run the solenoid and the rest of the car on 12V. You'll need a better alternator to charge at 16V.

the motor is still new, with less than an hour of run time. it was built with used housings and 3mm seals, it is also street ported .
in other words with more run time the 6 volt probably will start it?the motor is only cranking at approxmately 400 rpm if the autometer tach is to be believed. the thing idles great at 750 rpm once it is started, and has ~80 psi pops on all rotor faces cranking with the 6 volt starter.
thanks again!
