Renesis housing = 13b housings??

At our last meet the dealership put out an Rx-8 for us to tinker with and I noticed that the rotor housing have the same exact "13B Mazda" stamping on it as all the FC engines I've ever seen.

Does this Renesis use the same housings as the older rotaries? I thought that they were side intake, side exhaust so did they block off the exhaust port?

Just curious, thought it was neat to see the 13B represent once again (although the Renesis is still 1.3l of displacement I didn't think they'd use the same code again on the housings .)

yes, the peripheral exhaust ports are blocked and the spark nut holes are spaced slightly differently to my understanding.

The Renesis rotor housings are just 3rd gen 13B rotor housings that never had the exhaust port cut into them.

RG how is that so when the Renesis housings have the valleys for the coolant seals and the fd doesn't?

They also got twin oil injectors per housing.

Good call the Placement of the seals are the same as the first gen housings... they changed over ont he second and third gen but Mazda swapped em back in the Renesis. The housings would be the perfect starting point for a custom intake/exhaust buildup.

Wonder who will be the first to use them in a custom pp race engine...

Cool, interesting to know the little differences. I've got to hunt around some more for Renesis details and understand it a bit better.

They go back and machine those after they are cast. Forgot about the twin oil injectors but the housings are based on the 13B housings. Apparently just a small change in the mold.
