R-100 values
Hello, I was just curious what you guys thought R-100s in various conditions were worth. I have a pretty good idea, but just wanted some additional input from the old school collectors/enthusiasts.
I've been looking for a clean one of these over the past 5-6 years with not much luck, but have occasionally come across some. I've found about 7 over the last 6 years, ranging anywhere from $800-$12,500.
$800 - looked like it was dredged from the local river or pulled from a field, not really a worthwhile effort.
$1500 - almost always no motor/tranny, missing several interior and/or exterior pieces, needs body work and paint. Not really practical for a restoration due to lack of parts.
$2000 - this one had a motor/tranny but needed paint. Now that I think back on it I should have bought it.
$2500 - no motor/tranny, primered and ready to paint. Did include a 12A and tranny but they were yanked from a yard and in unknown condition. A little pricy for a rolling shell if you ask me.
$3000+ - usually running, but always seeming to need some sort of body work and paint.
$12,500 - completely restored, needed nothing. Original 10A, running with no problems.
What price ranges have you guys seen? Ironically I have never come across anything in the $3500-$12,000 range unless I'm forgetting something.
your experiences? What do you feel a modified R-100 is worth? ie. one with a 12A, 13B, 13BT, etc.?
Thanks,
Mike

it all depends on how much you are willing to pay. a friend of mine picked up complete car with original 10a from FL. for a total of $2500 with shipping. guy was origianly asking about $3900 just for the car. he let it sit for a year and then made him an offer. has some rust problems and is missing a driver side rear window. not to bad.
a shell was just recently purcahsed by a different friend from a local shop specializing in rears, tube frames, and the like for $100. this was a real shell. no floors,....you know what a shell is. it basicly needs a tube frame and will be a sick little drag car.
at one point a few years back i was in negotiations with a fella from FL over an r100 with 13bT in it. already had a cage, ford rear, tubbed, it had a draw through turbo system on it and a tII trany. the car ran mid 10's. and had a beautiful paint job. the price was set to be 10K, but he backed out. his original problem was the tII trany could not handle any more and he needed a jerico/ g-force and could not afford it....i guess he figured he went this far, might as well go all the way. never heard from that guy again.
In that case the 10k is definatly worth it. he already paid for all the expensive stuff. cage, rear and tub alone can run you some serious cash...

Ya they are just too hard to come by. They are so hard to find as most of us know. Other than tehy are just realy cool and they are rare, as far as performance and weight issues there is nothing that and rx-3 cant offer that the 100 can. I think the 3's are a good alternative to someone looking for an old school ride that wants a 100 but cant get a good one. But now days even the rx-3s are getting hard to find. Any ways that one for 2k that you said you looked at, that one would have been the one to get. My opinion is that one that has some mods like new turbo engine and is pretty complete as far as the car goes i think would be worth somewhere around 6-7k . I mean ya thats a lot of money but think about it. If any of us were like oh i want to get an r100 and went looking for one with wha i said, they are impossible to find so i think that would be a pretty good price if it was in OK to good condition.

You guys should keep an eye out on www.collectorcartrader.com
There's a R-100 on there right now. Also a really cool Mazda 1800:
here
I wish I could get that...it's like a piston powered Luce, I think.

Hmm, do you happen to have any photos of that R100? Too bad it has some rust though.
I am actually considering having a clean one imported here from Australia but it's $3000 just to get it here.

Yeah shiping stuff sucks. I have looked in to it, cuse I wanna ship a mini from the UK to the west cost of the USA. It would cost me about 3000 to about 4500 i was thinking to get it over here and it would take up to 2 months.
I do know this, if the car is not running it will take more money and work to get it here. Cuse you would have to get a cargo box and have it shiped in that. But if it dose run, then it is called a drive on and drive off type of thing.
Right now I have been thinking about trying to get this guys rx3 from him. He is about in his 60s I am guessing. But I was thinking get that haev have a lil funn with it tell I can ship me over a mini from the Uk..
Well best of luck with your R100 finding. If you do ship one from Australia, here is something to think about. It would mosty be right hand drive.. heh
