mating a second gen. RX7 trans to a subaru engine

i know that this is a little backwards to what you guys are used to and i have seen imprezas with rx7 engines, but i'm wanting to go the other way. i'm wanting to put a RX7 transmission in an impreza. i've heard that it had been done by someone on this forum. i was thinking that i could have a bellhousing adapter made, and i would think that i could use the subaru flywheel and pressure plate with the 7's disc (n/a 7's and subarus both us a 225mm disc), the only thing that really worries me is the shifter because i dont think that they will line up. any info you guys can give me would be great

Seems odd to me too. Are you looking to make a RWD only Subaru? I thought that the Suby trannies were pretty strong. Unless you're getting a TII tranny, the Rx7 trannies arent terribly strong. That is if you're thinking about running turbo power through one. You can shorten the shift tubes and rods to make the shifter land where you want. I still think that you're better off with a subaru tranny though.
