front subframe rubber?

Has anyone replaced or fixed the rubber piece that is between the front subframe and body? Mine is in really bad shape and this could cause the subframe to move around. I was thinking of just replacing it with an aluminum piece as I'm almost positive they don't make this crap anymore. What have you guys done?

Here's a pic.

It would be cool if you could track down a sheet of Polyurethane or Nolethane that companys use to make upgraded bushes with. You could lay it out on a table and trace your old ones and cut it out. That way it would be tougher than rubber, but wouldnt chew up your frame rails like metal would. If you wanted to get real fancy you could even cut down pipe/tubing to make crush tubes for where the bolts go through to eliminate cracking around holes. Just my 2cents

I wonder if combine conveyor belt is of a similar construction? I have not taken a close look at the rubber between the subframe and frame on my Cosmo...

I made a set for mine out of UHMW. Best possible material you can use here hands down.

But I'm sure aluminum would work just as well.

Thanks for the ideas. There are also 4 small rubber squares that are behind the 4 square washers that line everything up and those are shot too. I bet alot of people overlook this when rebuilding the front steering/suspension. This could cause alot of bad traits if the subframe is moving around.

ps. I heard Wacky uses maxi pads with good results.

I made the small square ones also out of UHMW. The material is similar to plastic but it's strong enough to be used anywhere you would want to use actual metal. It's used as a bearing in a lot of products today because the metal will wear out before the UHMW does. Ultra high heat resistance, and still will not be clunky like aluminum would be.

But you can machine or work it like you would Delrin or polyurethane. Very easy to work with.
