Still looking for bits and pieces of info still need to find a repu cosm or rx4 alternator or what wires to jump for the volt reg still trying to find more info on the engine harness i know i only need 6 wires to make it drive able and finctioning but i dont wanna have a accident so for now its sitting any body with a cozmo repu or rx4 with the factory engine harness pm me i need some in depth engine wireing info as in on the main engine harness the coolant temp wire oil level sender wire color basocaly all of the bare min to run wires

 

i didnt read the entire thread but if you use an 81-88 alternator, all it need is a 12v for it to start charging and i recommend mechanical oil pressure and water temp as well as a volt meter. relying on 40 year factory gauges is very risky. if you need help with wiring pm me ur #

Siraniko dont u have to delete the factory regulatir im using a 81 12a i wanna try and use all my factory gauges only thing i cant figure out is the alt wiring snd the oil pan sensors have oil psi and coolant temp figured out im using the 13b origanal harness

 

81-88 alternator requires a 12v for it to start charging so you can ditch the stock alternator wire...Or run jumper wires on the regulator plug and use a test light to find a 12v on the alternator plug. the only factory wire i used is the water temp gauge but i dont rely on it; i have aftermarket gauges. i dont use oil pan sensor and such but if i will look into them.

 

let me rephrase that...

use a test light to locate a 12v from regulator plug.

run a jumper from the 12v to any of the wires that ends at the alternator plug. then connect this wire to the upper terminal on the alternator 2-wire plug

 

So let me get this right 12v wire from reg to the upper plug on the àlt then i have the wire that bolts on the the alt that goes back into the harnessor can i take out the reg and find the 12v wire and jump that to the wire that goes to the origanal alt i will post a pick when i get that far still tracing my engine harness out figuring out what is what got the car with no engine just s harness

 

Why not upgrade to a 86-88 s4 alt? Just 1 wire in and 1 out. You can ditch the external regulator and you'll be getting a 70 amp alt. very easy job as I've done it on both my Rx2s and my Rx3.

Make sure you grab the plug-in off the s4 alt if you get it from the junkyard. Snip the wire a few inches back from it to give some room to strip and solder etc.

 

Ozzy im using a 81 gsl alt o have it its free the way sirinko explained it it sounds like 1 in 1 out

 

Thats fine to use if its all stock. If you go with an e-fan or any other electric loading goodies I'd go to a higher amp. wacky is right 1 in 1 out. Good luck with the rest of your project.

I cannot continue with this project anylonger i have all the trim interior parts i believe also have a81gsl lsd disk brake rearend and frint suspension to go in the car its a project it runs but does not drive so that being said any local wa or or idaho peeps i can aend pics i will not ship the car or part it out 1700 come take it
