On the HEI ignitors make sure the polarity is right for the signals coming
from the reluctor on the dizzy. You may have to reverse them depending
on what dizzy your running or how it was initially wired.
Oh and make sure you ground the HEIs really good using the screw hole
with the small collar around it. It makes a big difference in signal quality.
Ask me how I know
Can't wait to see vids of this running.

I also found out I need a new water pump. After filling with coolant for the first time it was weeping from the pump shaft. Oh well add it to the list of things to do
And thanks for the positive comments!

Ok so it needs alot of tuning. I worked out the troubles I was having before. It turns out I did have one wire out of place and that threw it all off.
I still need to hook up my throttle linkage.
A few plumbing issues to deal with, like water pump leakage. There is a new one on its way. I still have to mount the coolant reservoir.
I need to adjust the carb and possibly rejet it. I tried to fit the carb with the correct jets to begin with but we will see what happens.
I think I need a new fuel pump. The one on the car is an old crappy electric unit that used to supply fuel to the vw fourbanger. It doesn't have enough power to get the fuel through the regulator even on the lightest setting. So with the regulator in place the carb gets no fuel. Take the regulator out and the carb gets flooded. So a new fuel pump is in order.
Can't wait to drive it!

In the first video I had the regulator out of fuel line and I think thats why we had flames because fuel was basically dumping in.
The second vid was with the reg in but just leaking enough fuel through to keep it alive.
I'm having a hard time finding a good thread on timing the motor and the timing split. If anyone knows of one please send it my way.
I do plan to shorten those ignition wires up just haven't gotten the chance.
Now once I get some of this stuff nailed down and the motor starts and runs smoothly the bodywork will begin.
I now have less then 8 weeks to deadline!

The fuel pump I have now is a Facet, the little square one that makes a loud clicking noise. I just found out that they are terrible. They are no volume and high pressure where what we want is high volume low pressure.
I just ordered a Carter fuel pump that will supply the right pressure without the need for a regulator. Much better.
Unfortunately I can't start to tune the carb until I have the new pump.
BUGEYE:
Are you running a 45 or 48 DCOE? Maybe you have some suggestions for jetting.

When researching what jets to get I went off of what the IDA guys were running because I just couldn't find solid info on the DCOE for a rotary.
So this is what I have:
43mm chokes, F3 emulsion, 205 mains, 140 a/c, and 65 F10 idle.
I could be setup completely wrong, I don't know.
Thoughts?
And this is a 48 btw

I like your pump idea how much did I cost you, I'm running Faucet pump as well. Noise little bugger.

And Steve, the funny thing is the rotary engine is actually a German design. The guys name was Felix Wankel but Mazda picked it up and perfected it.
If you already knew that I apologize.

Thanks guys, the muffler is a Flow Sound. Got it new on ebay for $35. Its 2.5" in and out and all 409 stainless. Couldn't pass on that. But you can look right through the muffler and see daylight. So it is very loud.
My neighbor about 100 yards away said when it first started her dogs thought the world was coming to an end and begged to go inside.
I actually took t g farrell's advise and bought a second muffler. Its the same exact muffler but it will make a turn and go across the motor and dump on the right side of the car. I still thing it will be very loud because the mufflers are basically straight through. I don't mind being loud but I want to drive this car alot and I don't want to be a cop magnet.
BugEye: Actually I have no idea how loud the pump is. But hopefully it won't be any louder than the Facet pump. Or maybe it won't sound so wimpy

Yesterday was a marathon car work day. I'm waiting for the fuel pump still so I started on the body work. I did alot of work on the front fenders which are ready for prime, but my main focus is the dash. I shaved most of the stuff out of the dash so all there is now is the speedo and the glove box. I want to get the dash done and painted so that I can install the gauges. I really want my gauges up and running so I can tune the motor and also monitor everything. I'll be setting up a fuel ratio gauge to help with the carb. I don't know if I'll get it painted today but if I do I'll put up some pics.
