It's possible to do 1000 miles in a day... just, grab a few energy drinks! You'll be FINE!

the FD isn't so bad, just use a big *** screw driver on the separation ring so the bearing pops out and then its about as easy as it comes. Sorry to hear about the engine and good luck.

tranny install and removal only takes 2 minutes outside of the car. Not shure on how much more work it is on a FD to unhook everything. but I pulled motor and tranny together with rear cross member on my FC only took 10 minutes more. but I was swapping trannys also.

Plan right now is a pineapple racing rebuild with large street port, new rotor housings, switch to a RX7store gt35R turbo, battery and fuse box relocation, vehicle respray(not sure of what color yet) etc. The race season is going to be coming to a close by the time I finish so I am just doing everything now.

What I have seen that works best is to turn the engine until you can see the pp bolts through the access panel and loosen all six. now remove all six... then remove the engine to bellhousing bolts and separate. pressure plate and clutch stay attached to the tranny and the engine goes free. Now with the engine out of the way you can deal with that snap ring. Too much fumbling around with it will damage the retainer ring. Good luck with your build.
