tips on pulling motor

hey i havnt pulled a motor before but im partin out a s5 and the motor is still good, how difficult is it to pull it out? any tips would help.

not hard at all. it helps to have a friend and an impact with the appropriate sockets. oh and an engine hoist is helpful too

I find it less messy to disconnect the oil cooler form the car than disconnecting the lines.

go slow. its nothing too hard. took me about 2 hours at a slow pace to pull mine today. and make sure you have everything disconnected. check like 3 times

It's not hard!!

Disconnect the ECU plugs and pull the harness through the fire wall
Drain all your fluids including oil cooler and transmission!
Disconnect charging system/plug wires/any other electrical
Remove powersteering bracket with pump still installed and secure it to the side out of the way with safety wire or something like that
Disconnect oil cooler lines
Remove radiator and hoses/heater hoses
Remove throttle cable
Remove Air condition pump and secure it off to the side as well
Unbolt tranny mounts and place jack underneath to support
Unbolt engine mounts from under the car (subframe)


Then double check that your free from anything else like fire wall grounds and Cruise control if that's still hooked up, and slowly raise the engine and walk it forward while still checking that everything is disconnected.

Just take your time and organize your hardware!!!!

hey i do this too and just flop it up on the motor with a bungee cord or zip tie then remove it later.

- take your time
- take pictures
- bag and label your bolts and nuts (important)
