New year at WSU. Who's all going?!?
Hi all. This is the new "who is in pullman with an rx7?" thread!
All I know off the top of my head are me and scrims.
Thankfully after a lot of work scrims got his car in working condition, just needs to figure out how to get passed emissions now. (I'm so glad my car is registered in yakima where there are no emissions)
Anyways, who is heading up there this year? I love to work on 7s, even if they aren't mine, and seeing how no ones 7 is ever done, there should be tons of stuff for me/us to do!
Anyways, see ya around!
P.S. I currently have 2 FCs. One marroon turbo with black hood, bad paint, and semi loud exhaust, and a coilovered, red 88 GTU, that looks NA ...butttt... is far from. shhh..

...hmm wow I haven't seen ANY 7s so far..... This isn't good. I have seen a lot of riced out 240sx / honda's and such though. Although I have had very little trouble kicking their butt with the NA-T, I'm excited to bring my other car up here.
I see a red FB almost every time I head to Moscow, for my class I have at the university of ID. Who be you? haha The guy that works at the scooter shop by chance? I remember he was going to drop in an s5 into an FB I thinks.
Anyways ... where my rotorheads at? It's getting lonely over here, and my roommates know NOTHING about cars. If I hear one more thing about iraq or oil, and how global warming is ruining the environment, I am going to blow.

Haven't seen any other FCs? Ive seen 2 already. A white TII I caught in the safeway parking lot late one night, had upgraded exhaust and some sort of racing driver's seat. Then another blue NA somewhere by Denny's.
My dad is still working here and there on my car. Fixing a small coolant leak here, replacing the thermostat there, etc, and generally gently putting miles on my fresh rebuild. He'll be taking it in to be emissions tested again here this coming week, to see if it's just residual oil and assembly lube that failed me last time. Pending those results, It'll be going into a shop to drop in $150 worth of work so I can get the waiver. All things said, 2 more weeks and it will be out here
Edit: But who knows if those FC belonged to students or parents who are now gone...

maybe i should move my stash over there. You would have an opportunity to see a bunch of trashed s4's!!!
just posting to check my new avatar... i cant get my gallardo vert into a sig, it keeps saying the pic is too big. How do people get illegal sigs in?
scrims, good to hear that your car is up an running. what was the deal with it stalling out after 30 minutes?

Turns out there was a vac leak between the intake and the block. A shiny gasket and a small dab of RTV fixed that right away. As Tweak put it, now all i have to do is pass emission (sigh).

I have YET to find an rx8 person that knows they have a rotary engine in their car. But at the same time I have yet to find someone with an rx8 that isn't a 18 year old blond ditz gabbing on your cell phone with a small lap dog in the passenger seat.

It came into yakima tuesday morning! It was scheduled to come in friday, and I was going to work on it all weekend, but there was a big mess of paperwork and customs it needed to go through. Haltech says they never had to fill out paperwork before, no clue why they had to do it for my stuff.
ANYWAYS, yes it is in yakima, and I will be heading home thursday night to work on it all weekend. I can't wait to drive it, even untuned. Right now I am planned to have BDC (the person that ported my plates and helped me SOOO much the last few months) tune my car sept 27th or 28th. Not sure where this is going to happen at, and no quite sure why I picked that date, but I did. I am very excited and can't wait. He is nothing less than amazing. He started tuning my car remotely over the internet. O.o
It looks like I am going to be able to keep my 17 inch wheels too! And my proud new drift sponsor (Jenkins Inc.) has some 17 inch tires to put on there so I will actually HAVE traction after I get all the power. Should really help.
Other than that, the list of stuff I need to do / install are endless it seems. I need to get a professional cage installed, I can already see mine warping, and I need to most likely get some new seats right off the bat. If I do these though, I am worried my stock NA sleeper look might go down the drain. :/
Anyways, yeup, ECU is back, I am getting it ready for the tune and all will be right in the world again soon hopefully.
PS. scrims, I STILLLLL owe you a ride in a turbo 7!

Interesting. ... but generic car club meetings just seem to ask for trouble. I would rather, less people know of my cars. I dislike the idea of generic honda / acura people knowing of what is worth stealing from inside my car. :/ Also I can't stand how everyone seems to know everything about MY car, and 99% of them are dead wrong.
So only Honda and Acura people steal stuff LOL The meets are small and all the cars are fairly high end so I really doubt you need to worry, we all know each other for the most part and only one Honda at the last meet. Sounds like you hang out with the worng people if you are that worried about being jacked

the problem is he is from Yakima, that's all that gets stolen in Yakima is hondas. i know first hand, my GF has a 88 hatch and i have a 92 hatch, and hers got broken into in front of my house, they almost stole it, but couldn't break off the ignition. but in the last like 3 weeks or something there has been 4 cars stolen in Toppenish like last month. that's why he is a little gun shy....lol

what the heck, I need to get out more! I have yet to see one still. :/ Maybe I am in the wrong spot at the wrong time.
Although I did see a black t2 in othello today on my way back to yakima. Talked to him. Got his car 3 months ago and said he was on the forum. His car needs a lot of work (engine bay), but it seemed to have been running ok.

Little update on my car, coming second hand from my dad.
He just replaced the thermostat and now the temp is rock solid at 1/4 the way up (it was running hot).
Couple issues persist: the voltage likes to dip pretty frequently, we think it may be attributed to the napa belt we got that seems to be too big (the alternator is all the way extended and the belt is still a tad loose). We're also contemplating putting in an FD alt.
We're also leaking oil. Not a lot, but enough to be noticed. It appears to be coming from the front of the oil pan. Dad tightened the oil pan bolts a small amount and the drizzle slowed slightly.
The last problem is a bit of a mystery to me. It seems that whenever the gas is let off and the clutch pushed in, the rpms just drop like a rock, noticeably faster than pre-rebuild. Sometimes this causes the car to stall, but usually it catches at 500, bounces once or twice, then settles at 750rpm.
My dad's taking it in to get emissions tested again tomorrow, and pending its failure, will be calling a shop to drop the $150 to get the waiver. I'm going home this weekend to do a few things to the car and then hopefully will be driving it back to pullman ...If we get it registered that is.

vac leaks, or your idle set to low ... or your thermo wax messed up ... or ... a lot of things. :/ Mainly if your idle falls HARD and bounces that is vac.
Check out this thread before u go FD alt. Its 170 amps and seems to be nice. I am really looking into it. Most dont need 170 amps though hehe.

Vac leaks will be the death of me. >_<
well i'll add that to the list of stuff to look at when i get home. At least I'm confident the uim and lim have no leaks, after just redoing them with new gaskets (including a spiffy metal one for the lim to block joint) and a dab of rtv.
I think I'll replace the thermowax too, just for good measure. Know of a good place to get one?

You need to do what I said from the beginning. Spray compressed air into your intake right after the maf, and spray soapy water all over your intake and engine. You will be surprised. Don't forget to spray the injectors and such.

hehehe... for some reason, i missed the whole thing about spraying in the compressed air right after the maf. I had Just done very small amounts of the soapy water while the car was running, but looking back, that really doesn't make much sense. So for spraying in the compressed air, do i just use the small straw-thing that comes with some cans-o-air and squeeze it into the intake right there, or what?

You will need to either figure out how to pressurize the intake, by blocking off the intake and spraying into it. I used PVC couplers ontop of each other, with a hole drilled into the top that I connected my compressor air nozzle too. ...
hmmm hard to explain ... without a picture haha
Ya, spraying soap on the engine while it is running would do nothing. You can do a quick test to see if you have some BIG vac leaks by spraying start fluid outside the engine while it is running. Your idle will change (can go up or down) and that will tell you where some big problems are. Think of the way I explained it like putting a blown up balloon under water that has holes in it ... you will see the bubbles.
Spots on an NA that I have had problems with in the past, are the rats nest if you still have that crap. (I think you do cause you have to pass emissions ew), the injectors gromets, where the plastic elbow meets the throttle body, little cracks in the vac lines, and ... everywhere else you could possibly think of haha. I have had vac leaks everywhere through all my engines.
Trust me, I tell every person this ... do the vac test, pressurize your intake, and spray it with soap ... but no body does.. I don't know why ... they think I'm joking? I'm playing a big trick on them? I really have no clue. Then they finally do it and are like OOOHH WOW my car idles awesome! and that loopy idle is gone and blah blah blah... and I want to beat them with a 2x4 because they tried fixing 101 other things before they listen to what I had to say. You people know who you are!! haha. Not talking about you scrims, you are just very confused taking it all in right now. You will start to figure it out slowly, then one day it will all just click and everything will get clear and make sense. I was a late bloomer ... I finally hit rx7 puberty when I was 8 engines old... .... O.o (I could make so many period jokes right now, but ..... I think.... I will pass on this one.) haha
