I was thinking the same thing. Even my stock 13s and stock sized P185.65R13 tires fill up more wheel well than that. Hmmm...

Maybe the car is just jacked up with the wheel barely touching the ground?

You should have lowered it first.....

I don't think you got the right sized tires either... There's way too much wheel gap it looks like.

Needs bigger tires, those are too skinny and to low profile.

You could go 245 or so in the rear. Fat rubber is like big muscles, Hondas put 205/40/17s on. RX7 can go bigger!

Other than the tires being so small the rims look great. How much did they run you?

Those tires look like yokohama avs es100's. they are the cheapest good tire you can get,. They are what most auto cross guys run. the next tires up are like 150 a tire. Good score on the tires though.

What kind of auto-x guys do you hang around? At our local events people pretty much run R compound, Hoosier and Kumho are the two heavy hitters.

For STS and STX they run Falken Azeins.

I agree with Jeff. I run the ES100's, nice street tire for the money. But I sure as hell woundn't run them for auto-x (at least not if wanted a competitive time) event.

I bet he hangs out with AWD 323 Auto-X guys that drive insane and don't have too much $$ to spend

BTW those rims are awesome, a friend of mine has em on his Suby and they are pretty cool. Although I am not a fan of lowering cars a bigger rubber or lowering a couple inches would "look" better, but if you are just for perfromance who cares?

When ever i go out there, about 85% of the cars are actualy driven to the track, cus they are cars that people drive on the street. Therefor they dont run hoosiers and the like on the street. Next time your out there just look. i bet if you count the number of cars running es100s compared to other street tires i bet there are more of those than any other. Yes the kumho victor racers, paradas etc. are popular to, but all are almost double the price of the es100's. I live like 20 mins from bremerton raceway, i go out there all the time. Since yokohama replaced the almost benchmark street performance AVS line the the ES100's they have really caught on due to their wide selection of sizes and relatively good bang for the buck.

And i dont know what your referring too. I have run a set of carrat Fuldas on my GTX in the rain at auto cross, By no means as performance oriented as the ES100's, and in the rain I can woop all the soobies and the like with their "R" compounds and wide rubber. I even get most of em in the dry also. Auto cross comes down to driver, as long as you have a rig that is even slightly competetive, you can do very well. My point is that, the es100 is a good affrodable tire, you can go ahead and spend twice as much on a set of hoosiers, all it will do for you is, make you haul 4 extra wheels and tires each day to change, trailer your car, or bump you out of your class, its up to you. Just my 02 guys.

I drove my FD ~3000 miles a year to events on R compound tires, I did run Kumhos most of the time since they were almost 1/2 the price of Hoosiers. I have Hoosiers now and have driven them to events as far as 175 miles one way. I know they won't last long though doing that.

Your point makes me wonder how much you have actually autocrossed. BSCC doesn't have a street tire class to my knowledge, all their classes allow r-compound tires. NWR has a couple of street tire classes, one is Street tire index, in which it is based off the actual stock classes that do allow r-compound tires so you could run in either the regular class you would be in that you can use r-compounds or if you want to run street tires they have a special handicapped class that you can run in with treadwear higher than 140. Plus there are a few specialized street tire classes that only certain cars can enter, STX,STU, STS, STS2. Suspension modifications, wider rims, etc knock you out of classes, not tires usually in autocrossing.

Running a slick will knock you out of novice with BSCC. the other classes will allow it, but then you start to get limited on your suspension. You get kicked out of a bunch of the classes as soon as you have struts that do not retain the stock lower perch. Trust me, im somewhat knowledgable on the rules and what people use. Hardly any of the guys that bring street cars use R compounds, most use a nice set of Z rated tires , and those do the job pretty good. You star to get bumped out of classes as soon as you run anything but stock boost on turbo cars also. it kinda sucks.

None of us have ever talked about running a slick, we have only talked about running r-compounds which are DOT approved race tires. Full race slicks put you in Prepared or Mod classes, stock, street prepared, and street mod classes can run r-compounds. If you counted up all the cars running r-compounds at a BSCC event I think you would find probably 2/3 or even 3/4 of the people not running in novice are on r-compounds, at a NWR-SCCA event you will only find a few cars out of 100-200 that are not in a street tire or novice class not running race tires. A national champion co-drove my car for a morning session on my street tires then during lunch we switched to my R-compound tires and I barely edged out his time. Results show r-compounds can be worth over 2 seconds on a 60 second course given same driver same car.

No one uses street tires and is a class winner here, well except the ~2 street tire classes.
