mazda tech in Lynnwood now Bear auto

So I had my car towed to mazda tech today only to find out that its something else now. Its listed as Bear auto. I talked to the guy (jonh) who apperently took over from andy (something about tugboats?) and he seems to know a decent bit about our cars. He's going to let me know if my clutch job killed my motor.

Just thought I 'd mention it.

And now its either closed/ and for sale or just for sale.
I left my car there right after i posted this. He had it for 5 weeks in all. I never heard from him, called the shop, his cell (not accepting calls) left messages, email, here. Hell I almost had to go over to his house just to tell him i wanted my, untouched, car back.

If he is still taking work, I wouldn't trust him. Just a heads up.

The clutch job was at another shop. As far as I know the clutch job didn't kill the engine. PROBABLY they were just "testing" the clutch with a few spirited launches and that did it. I can't prove anything one way or another so bacically I have to eat it.

As far as Mazdatech/Bear auto. I dropped the car up there to have it rebuilt. I have had work done there before (Andy?) and knew he could do a good job. Musta been about mid August, I ran into a young lady who said she was waiting for Jon, "had I met jon?" no please tell me more. The worried me a bit but after meeting him I felt a little better. I asked him to test the compression. and latter he confirmed that it was the front rotor. Told me he used a standard compression tester (which i coulda done) and that I needed a new engine.

We talked it over about what he could do and how much etc. He was going to pull the engine for me and then the former owner would rebuild the engine, and then jon would put it back in. I asked him if I could leave the car until i figured out the money situation. about 10 days later I went there and gave him the go ahead. Told him to call me when i could gett the injectors and take them to be cleaned. That was it, never heard from him again. after 5 weeks of nothin I had to go and get my car. Fortunatly he hadn't done anything at all to it. Just wasted my time and $120 for a tow because AAA wouldn't do it. They wanted to make sure I didn't owe any money to the shop.

He has a sign out that says "for sale $365K" at least thats the price i think it said.

Ok that explains alot. yeah that sucks about the dude being a flake.

I want to do a full tube frame FB one day, but I'll probably do it to my beater *** FB when the time comes. I'd never cut up a nice seven, especially a rarer one. Did he at least keep it rotary?

Here is the post he put up for the GTUs. https://www.rx7club.com/nw-rx-7-forum-33/gtu-s-nascar-mini-stock-747232/
Also ansewers my question about the 4 lug conversion.
Why would he go from a 5 lug to a 4 lug?!?!?!?

Wow, lots talk going on here.

It was an ugly situation at the end but I'm no longer associated with Mazda Tech and Bear Auto closed at the end of Business hours on October 5 2009. Andy and I had a falling out and I'm still paying the consequences for getting involved in the first place.

Augie I'm glad you got your car back but taking the fence apart and leaving it open for someone to come into the lot cost me dearly.

And yes this flake cut an 89' GTUs in HALF, put 4 lug hubs and spindles and single piston calpers so our spec wheels and tires would fit and have cashed enough checks from NASCAR in last 2 years to fund the entire project and landed a sponsor which has paid for all operating costs for both seasons I have ran that car. It's nice to see all the regulars in here that have been so kind in the past...

I have posted the dyno sheets with a wopping 166whp with an 80k mile s4 n/a with only exhaust modifications. I purchased an RTEK and after 2 trips to Drift Office made 0 gains.

I offered the car up on here for 2 weeks and the only offer I got was $1000 w/ an Xbox..... The '89 gtus is not really anything special. Yes limited production but I've heard different #s, anywhere from 200 - 10,000 built but the 1990 was the really rare one because production stopped early in 1990.

This has all been said before on the NASCAR GTUs threads so you can check that out add to the hate.

I've cut up verts, base models and other junk keeping the thing alive. How many GTUs' are out there doing what they were originally born to do? The car was parted out and a couple of other Sevens are better today becuase of it.
