A letter from the Sherrifs office...

Should I go get my second gen back? TII (80k, grey).

I sold it and the guy never registered it or insured it. Got it towed. I doubt he will be able to get it out either... He just blew all his cash apparently.......

Should I go pay the impound fee and get it? I still have a key...

Did you ever turn in your half of the paper-work for the sale?

If you released the title from your name you don't really own it anymore, and the car is sorta in 'registration limbo'

But yes, go get it back

How longs has it been? I think that's *kinda scandalous*... Interesting question, but yeah, scandalous.

HOWEVER, if you never filled out and turned in the Official 'Sellers Statement', then the impound fee's will be charged to you (it's owner) and you need to get it back ASAP before you get charged more... Haha, just something to consider.

From what ur telling us ... If u got a letter in the MAIL that means the car has been there for at least a week! 150 to p/u the car then they charge u 40-80 aday for impound fee and after 2 days u dont p/u the car u get charge 75. Thats what i went thru wen i p/u my car in cali.

U need to call and find out if the car is still urs for sure.

Oddly the same thing happened to me. I didn't really want the car any more (it was wrecked) so I didn't go get it back, the impound fee was about what it was worth, and I didn't want to sell it again. I told them I sold it, gave them the info of the guy I sold it to, and that's the last I heard of it. I assumed they sent it to the crusher since I doubt anyone would have wanted it at auction, though maybe he picked it up. Aww, now I'm sad.

If the new owner never titles or registers it then as far as the government is concerned it's still yours. If the new owner wants it back you have to give it to him (though you can charge him for your costs in this case) but if they abandoned it they probably won't. I'd give it a few months and then list it again. I am sure there's a law that covers exactly how long you have to wait but I don't know how long that would be.

Unless you kept a key you'll probably have to tow it home and then convince a dealer to make you a new key...

The thing is he has the title and owns the car. If you want the car for the drivetrain, I say go for it. Take everything off it you want then dump it some place. It gets towed and impounded again and it's not your problem anymore.

Pick it up. My friend has had this happen twice to him. I think he just ends up filing for lost title.

did you report it?

In Washington, if you reported the sale to the state you are not responsible for the towing or storage. If you didn't send in the report of sale, it's still your responsibility. The tow company may not let you bid on the car at auction, but that's what I would try to do if I had the key and it wasn't mine anymore. Good luck.
