I got my first ticket in downtown seattle yesterday $639
well i went to my courtdate and surprisingly i filed a mitigation hearing, meaning i admit to committing the infraction but want to hear the circumstances, which is true, i did commit the infraction there's no doubt about that. right when i walk into the room, the judge says i have an excellent driving record, and says i can have it deferred.
I explained to her what happen, blah blah blah, it was 3 in the morning I'm not a regular seattle driver, and a car had it's lights with the left turn signal on behind me, but there was a no left turn sign in front, so i assumed that it was ok at that time of night, took the left, and i was pulled over.
It was weird because i already had a deferral when i had my street bike up in Mt. Vernon, i guess you get to have ONE deferral for every county, and i also explained to her i already had a deferral within the last 2 years, but she insisted that i get it deferred since my record was good, and stay ticket free for a year.
Anywho, i'm glad i got it taken off my record for the time being (if i don't commit anymore infractions for the year). I walked in expecting to pay for the ticket, and getting my insurance jacked up, things turned around and went my way!

Sure, it'll set you back $200, but if you even just get your ticket lowered, you'll pay out of your *** for insurance for the next 3 years!
i've always kind of understood that one isolated incident won't affect your rates all that much. you kind of have to develop a short history in order for the premiums to jump.
