Help Needed in Oly, Starting Issues
Hey guys I got a few Problems.
It all started a few days ago... haha
I have been tearing down the front end so i can get my new body kit on.
The Car hasnt ran in a few days so I decided to Start it up and let it run.
I reconnected the battery and The car Did not start.. So I jumped the battery and it started right up no problems. I let my 7 run for about 20 min then shut it off and restarted it to see if it would start. I walked away for about an hour or so and i came back and was going to move it back into the garage and it didnt start. I toke the battery and took it too Schucks Auto and Had them test it. The battery was dead and it was only a year old. so i got a new battery and installed it. I could get the car started but it didnt run right. the car would rev up to about 2-3k RPM than Die, It did this about 3 to 4 times and Now the car wont even crank.
I have no dash lights and I Think the batter needs to be charged again.
But what do you think could have caused this problem?
I dont know if it is my alternator, Distributerber?
Any Ideas would be great
If anybody that lives in the Oly area would like to come out and help me try and fix this that would be great.
We can get pizza or something if somebody could help.
Thanks

so you put in a new battery cuz old one was dead and it started up fine. But you didnt touch the motor when installing your kit?
rev's up to 2-3k on startup when cold and then dies.
I dont think the 2-3k rev up on startup is any clue to your problem, if your car still has the cold start thing its going to do that for 10 seconds and then die down to about 1k-1.2k idle.
stupid stuff to check:
1. got your battery cables on right connector? posi towards the cab and negative away?
2. got gas?
Other than that might need some more info on whats goin on

Ok so did the issue start before or after you took off the front end?
A dead battery isn't too uncommon especially in winter and the rough running may be a fouled plug. Depending on the model there are a few ways around that w/o doing anything but pulling a fuse or holding the gas down.
I agree that we def need more info year of the car and timeframe that everything happened.

Ok, I got a full tank of gas'
Im Running a 87 S4 N/A
I did not mess with the engine at all when Itook the bumper off.
the car ran fine just after i Pulled the bumper/hood/lights off
i had the battery disconnected for a few days and reconnected when i was messing with my lights trying to get them to go up and down right.
So yestterday I tryed to try and get it started and noting happened....
Jumped it and it ran... let it run for about 30 min
few hours later nothing
new battery
it cranked and started up than died not 10 sec after i started. Did that probably 4-5 times. Now its like my battery is dead again
edit cables are in the right place aswell.

So you just got a new batt that may not have a full charge and for sure the fc's starter draws tons of amps. So I'd charge it fully if you can and then do the following.
A. pull the plugs and inspect to see if they are fouled if so, dry or replace them
B. if they're fouled pull the efi fuse crank the motor to try and clear the excess fuel.
install the plugs and efi fuse
C. try to start and see what happens..be aware that the rail has to juice the injectors so it'll take a few spins for it to start.
D. let us know what happens...Oh and really really check your lights. Any short there will drain that battery ultra quick if the fuse isn't blowing. Feel the battery once it's installed to see if it develops some serious heat. If you can somehow get an amp meter from a pawn shop or something get it on there and see the draw.

Basacally Otay said what I was going to say
Your car has been sitting for a few weeks now this isnt a big problem once you get your bumper back on and you can drive it around it should run as good as before the wreck

i wouldnt think that the car is flooded. If it were it wouldnt have started from the get go, I have lots of experince with floodin on these cars. But if now you have tried to start it up and its not firing then def a possibility but if the car is runnin for 10 seconds has to be something else. Drained battery maybe, you bought a new one though and 4-5 times running i wouldnt think would drain it that much, unless yo gotta fight with it to get it to start up. Bad ground somewhere? def charge that biatch so you know its not the battery.

Did you ever put a clamp on the hose right after your afm? Lol I remember that one specifically from the dyno. I did the start fluid test and didn't hear much of a difference. It has to be something major.
Good job.
