"A ghost in the machine"?
Alright, this is getting annoying, first I get the mysterious whining/grinding noises that come and go. Now I can't get my carb adjusted properly because my idle won't stay even. it advances by a thousand rpm and holds awhile, then drops back, then advances again, etc. etc. etc. So setting my mixture and idle is next to impossible. I'm running a weber 45 dcoe, so no vac advance and no emissions. What the hell is goin on withthtis thing? I can adjust the idle to anywhere from 500 to 2500 rpms and it still does the same thing.

Nobody has any ideas? Taco7 is tomorrow and I'd like to take my 7. But I'd like to be able to be reasonably certain it's going to make it too.
BTW- fuel pressure doesn't fluctuate, it's rock solid at a hair over 3 psi. My jetting is as follows
250 needle and seat
f11 e-tubes
55 pump jets
175 mains
60 f8 idle
160 a/c

sprayed arounf both fittings on intake, no change, but I replaced both hoses anyway. sprayed around intake, same thing. But since it comes and goes, not sure if I'd be able to tell. It acts like the vacuum advance, but I don't have one connected. I tried plugging and unplugging the nipples on the vac pots on the dizy too, just for ***** and grins, but no dif.

Hey have you tried a different alternator to rule out the possibility of it having a bad regulator. Well I guess that can be a pain due o the Gilmer drive. Also instead of keeping the timing on the marks advance it at the dizzy by about 5 degrees when holding idle up around 2800 RPM just to ensure that the mechanical advance is completely out. Remember the engine is ported so a bit more advanced timing will help smooth things out a bit more.

Uhh, ok
I value your opinion, but when I asked before and was answered, the motor the weber was on was a "stock" motor. The one it's on now is a "street ported" motor. Now I'm clueless if that matters to the idle jets, bgut the builder/owner was running the exact setup I am now, which is why I put it in. Motor sounded like a raped ape in his car, so since we have the same carb, I am using his setup, that way I know at least it WILL run. I have a handfull of other jets now to try, including the 65F9. If your saying that the idle jet should be the same on the street port as on the stock, I'll try her out. No offense, but I'm a moron about this carb till I get it tuned and toyed with. So I figured the best bet to have a good setup on this motor was use the same one that was already on it. I can change it now if need be, but at least it's running, never got that far with it on the other car.

one bit of info I did not see on there... What chokes are you running?
I was running a set of 36s. The reason I ask is that since you said that it runs real good up top that it is possible that too large a choke could also be hurting your low end torque. Just food for thought.
