Blake you are correct, interior parts are at dealer cost too. Pricing for new carpet is $1700 at the dealer, $910 from Mazdacomp. It's so worth it have a membership with them.

I'm having the paint shop across the street from John's shop do the paint. They use Scherwin Williams paint. Thanks for the offer though Space, I can get paint at dealer cost since I'm a Freightliner employee anyways. I don't know, I will see if I work out a deal with the shop.

 

Sherwin Williams is o.k. but PPG (which F\L Military uses) and Du Pont will make you more happier. I can get them both at OEM prices but I bet through F\L you'll get them below that. Let me know if you need or want me look at prices for you. If you can get a paint code or I can bring a paint chip book over and we can match the paint. What are you going to do with the interior paint ? Just paint over it ?

 

I know PPG and DuPont are better, but getting that shop to use it? Like I said I need to talk to them and see what I can hash out.

Ya, that's the plan, don't want to **** with the interior sound deadening and sealer, so I will just paint over it.

 

Well it's bondo time, did a pressure wash to get all the Baking soda residue. Will be doing bondo work all this week and maybe next.

12 years worth of pine needles and debris came out of the hole in the front wheel arch bulkheads!

Looking good afgmoto1978. I was wondering if you might as well take out your front and rear glass while you're at it since you've gone this far. Just a thought.

I've got a glass guy who is both inexpensive and good. He is one of the crewmen on my Grand Am Cup team. Lives in Vancouver but can meet you anywhere. I can get you his number if you are interested.

 

It's really not a really big deal as long as the glass guy knows what he's doing. There's always a chance of cracking the glass but that's just with the territory. Just get a quote for removal and installation.

The gasket around both the front and rear glass can be rolled back and masked but judging by the level of restoration you're going for, the paint and clear would lay much smoother and be cleaner around the edges if you went ahead and took out the glass. It would also make wetsanding and buffing easier and cleaner if you were to take your paint to that level.

 

Want to do mine next? It could use some paint work...

Alright! The car is finally at the frame straightener and he said the major parts of the chassis is on the money already. Just have to pull down the pressed in section under the driverside door and maybe a few small adjustments here and there.

Then Bondo, Bondo and more Bondo this weekend. Anybody wanna help? I'll buy you beer and food!?!

 

What an undertaking! Sorry, no can do, i'll be doing the Bondo thing this weekend myself (molding some sideskirts on my friend's Alltrac Celica). Keep up the progress, it's looking good!

Lookie lookie what I got in the mail today from Japan....99 Spec taillights!

Also got the paint, went with PPG Tungsten Gray Metallic, same paint color as the Mazda 6. Pretty similar to my bike and a lot easier to color match down the road in the event of an unfortunate fender bender with a tree. Came out to $827.15 for all material needed, got a 40% discount, thanks Industrial Paint Supply!

Actually it looks like after John is finished creating a down draft system in his shop I may be able to do it there. Whole lot cheaper, but a little more wet sanding will be required.

I still have to ask if shop across the street if they are willing to shot PPG and how much. If they say yes and the cost is reasonable, then I might just do it there so it will save me the hassle of sand out particulates in the paint.

 

Well the body shop got done with the car Saturday, but didn't take the car off the gig, so no car to work on this weekend. Doh!

Instead I started doing cleanup of interior body paneling. Space came down today to help me for a while. Thanks Lance.

Got my Rotary Extreme sleek headlight kit in Thursday and they look sweet.

I also got a free Mazda 323 last Wednesday. Man what a piece, but once I fix the things wrong with it, it will be an good commute/backup car. Thanks Apex for letting me use your Golf, you are truly a friend (notice the background advertising).

Started doing bondo today and will be doing tomorrow. Having a DA saves a lot of time. Notice the amount of mud on the door, not sanded yet, but damn!

 

Went to a friend's grand opening of his shop Adrenaline Racing today. I'm having him order an AutoExe front strut bar and under frame brace kit. They're were some cool car's there. The JGTC copy is good from far, but far from good setup.

 

Well this going to take a while, worked on both side and found a lot of pin size dings everywhere. Plus the big ones, air tools will save me thought. Hey, if any of you guys want to help come on over, I'll buy you beer and food for the who day. Will try to be a Apex's shop every evening and all weekend minus the cool event excursions.

 

Well John's air compressor broke down, so I couldn't do bondo. So I fitted up bodywork and did few other things.

Borrowed Spiders air comprtessor Sunday. Thanks Spider, I'll bring it back Tuesday night if John's compressor is fixed.

Started work on retrofitting the aluminum stiffening brackets from the stock front bumper the urethane 99 bumper. Some interesting details are in the pics. It will be interesting how well it fits up.
